The ever changing landscape in the business world presents challenges and opportunities every day across the 7 Rivers Region.

One of the priorities of the 7 Rivers Alliance is to make sure that our resources and efforts are honed in on addressing those challenges and helping to grow the opportunities.

That’s why our annual executive survey is so important. We invite executives from all businesses across the region -- from the largest to the smallest -- to weigh in on success, threats, challenges and opportunities.

How important is this survey? In 2015, the alliance received strong and clear direction from our annual survey of the region’s businesses when 75 percent of the respondents across 14 counties in southwest Wisconsin, southeast Minnesota and northeast Iowa identified a need for skilled workers. Something had to be done to address the workforce challenges facing employers and to ensure continued growth and prosperity across the region.
We engaged partners, found funding and after a nearly year-long effort to understand the workforce preparation, retention and recruitment challenges faced by our businesses and communities, the result was the 7 Rivers Alliance Workforce Development Plan (WISE Plan).

The survey will ask questions about your business, sales, general business climate and changes, the impact of tariffs on trade, workforce, future growth and barriers to growth along with child care, housing and other areas that impact your business.

Your answers will be kept confidential, of course. We will analyze the results and release them at our annual State of the Region meeting in November. We will also send you a copy of the results if you wish.

I know how valuable your time is. The survey will only take a few minutes but is extremely valuable in helping the 7 Rivers Alliance align our efforts to meet your needs. You do not have to be a paid member of the 7 Rivers Alliance to take part.

From ages birth to five, there is an explosion of brain development that sets a child on the course that will become their life. Will they graduate from college? Drop out of high school? Cure cancer? Spend time in jail?
As individuals and as a society, we can influence which way that path leads. If we make the most of those early years of brain development, we will be on our way to creating a robust workforce and a healthy and happy society.
But how do we do that at a time when quality childcare is hard to find and difficult to afford?
Great Rivers United Way and the sparks! collaborative are bringing to town an important documentary about early childhood learning and childcare. You are invited to attend and to spread the word to anyone else you think might be interested. Thanks to some community sponsors, including The Parenting Place and Once Upon a Child, No Small Matter is being shown free of charge at three locations in our area. A panel discussion afterward will allow a chance to continue the conversation further.
