     School Value for Term 3
     Mana Whakahaere/Responsibility
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
A warm welcome back to everyone at school. On Monday we also welcomed all our new students and families with a powhiri and we wished them all a long and happy association with our school. We also welcome Mrs Bell who will be teaching in Room 24 until Mrs Brown's permanent replacement starts on 12 August. Currently, we have a roll of 772 students and are due to start our 7th Year 1 class at the end of August.

This is going to be a big term for the senior students as they prepare for the upcoming AIMS Games to be held in Tauranga later on in the term. We are sending over 50 students to the games and it promises to be a great experience for them all. Much preparation and rehearsing will be going into the upcoming production of Peter Pan Jr. Productions are always a highlight on our cultural calendar and we look forward to the show at the end of the term.

Congratulations to our rippa teams who have done very well in their tournament last week. Lots of fun and sportsmanship was on display and we wish them all the best in their next round of games.

Thank you to all the whanau who attended the hui on Monday night. Good progress was made as we look towards the future.

Kind regards,

Gary Pasfield
Principal

North Harbour Rippa/Rugby Tournament
Y3/4 Girls & Y5/6 Boys
It was pretty cold before the sun broke through the low clouds, this group of students found a way to warm up.  Although the tackle boys had to play Rippa instead of tackle they really enjoyed winning their three games against friends from the club teams. The girls team won all their games apart from one draw. Thanks to parents for transporting, coffee and supporting through the day.

Thank you to our fabulous PTA for funding the new mats under the rotating net and the rocktopus.  These mats will keep our kids safe and means less muddy puddles!
Dress Up Day
Our Student Council organised a dress up day last week to promote well being in the school and we got a great variety of costumes from steam punk to princesses.

100 Days Celebration
Our Tarawera Team celebrated 100 days at school
so far this year with their traditional hat parade.
YMCA Basketball
All the Waimauku teams played awesomely in the finals!

Waimauku Misfits came 2nd in the Under 9s A Grade
Waimauku Goonies won the Under 11s A Grade
Waimauku Raiders came 2nd in the Under 9s C Grade
Waimauku Jaws came 2nd in the Under 14s A Grade

Student Achievement
Mathex
The Mathex competition was exciting this year!  Our Year 8 Waimauku B team did particularly well and reached the competition high score of 55, along with two other teams, which meant a three-way tie for first place. A very difficult tie-break question led to several attempts by all three teams and, eventually, overall second place for Waimauku B.

The Year 7 and 5/6 competitions were equally exciting with our teams competing well and enjoying the challenge of competitive maths!

Friday 18 Oct/Saturday 19 Oct - Ag Day
Saturday is the day the animals come out to play!  Take a moment to enjoy a taste of the lovely rural community we live in.  Watch and cheer our mini-farmers as they put their lambs and other pets through their paces.  Thanks to everyone who participated in the recent survey about Ag Day - we will have MORE stuff going on - food trucks and games and we have extended the timings so family members and friends can come to school and grab some lunch or buy other goodies and the children with pets can join in the fun after their competitions are over.  Watch this space, more info to come.

Thanks as always to the businesses in our local community who are SO generous with gifting vouchers and items for us to use for our raffles etc.  And thanks to the PTA helpers - we can't do it without other parents stepping in on the day so just know that we really appreciate you.  Many hands make light work :)
Have an awesome week!
