TECT AGM 2019

Thank you to everyone who came along to our AGM last night. It was great to be able to present the Annual Report to trust beneficiaries and to hear from a number of you—we appreciate all your questions and comments.

It is pleasing that we are able to report on another successful year for the trust and to present our Annual Report. Some of the highlights include:
  • We were once again able to support a number of worthy community groups and initiatives, receiving 216 grant applications and approving 205.
  • A total of $7.3M was distributed across TECT's five grant funds.
  • The opening of the Tertiary Campus signalled the start of an exciting era for tertiary education in the region. TECT's $15M grant is the largest in the trust's history.
  • Group profit before tax was $55.3M. This compares to $45.2M in the previous year.
  • Group equity increased by $145M to $921M.
  • In November 2018 $28M was distributed to beneficiaries via the TECT rebate.
  • After consultation with beneficiaries in early 2019, $30M was committed for distribution in November 2019. A further $16.8M was allocated for payment as a special rebate in July 2019.
  • From 2019, eligible beneficiaries now have the option to receive their TECT rebate direct into their bank account. There will be no more rebate payments via cheque
Thank you to St John for hosting us in your new building; the meeting rooms serve as a fantastic space for training and it's great to know you have the modern facilities necessary for the life-saving work you do in our community.

For those who were unable to make it, our Annual Report and Financial Statements are available to view on our website

TECT SPECIAL REBATE PAID
The special rebate was paid last week to eligible beneficiaries*. Payment was made either direct into a nominated bank account, credited to the power account, or gifted to the Acorn Foundation Vital Impact Fund, as selected by beneficiaries.

Confirmation letters and emails were sent out last week confirming the payment method and how much eligible beneficiaries received.

As this is the first time we have paid a rebate this way, there is some key information that will be of interest to you. You can check out all special rebate FAQs below.

DAME PATSY REDDY OFFICIALLY OPENS THE KOLLECTIVE

We were honoured to welcome Governor-General Dame Patsy Reddy last week to officially open The Kollective.

The Kollective is New Zealand's largest co-working space dedicated to the success of not for profit, social enterprise and charitable organisations; supporting collaboration, reducing duplication, and providing the means for organisations to focus on what matters most—our community.

It was wonderful to hear Dame Patsy and Mayor Greg Brownless speak of the amazing opportunities The Kollective provides, and we couldn't agree more!

We are so proud to have founded The Kollective—a work-home for our community that truly facilitates collaboration and connectivity.

SPOTLIGHT ON COMMUNITY GROUPS

Citizens Advice Bureau

Citizens Advice Bureau Tauranga has been providing free advice, guidance and support to our community for over 40 years.

A hub of information about anything and everything you could possibly imagine, their service ensures people have the knowledge and confidence to find their way forward – whoever they are, whatever their problem.

TECT funding was sought to update the slow, outdated computers used daily by volunteers responding to calls and emails. We were more than happy to help, ensuring volunteers can assist people as quickly as possible when they are often at their most vulnerable.

Have a question? Want to know more about your rights? Pop into Citizens Advice Bureau Tauranga at 38 Hamilton Street, Tauranga or give them a call on
 07 578 1592.

Indian Ink Theatre Company
23-25 August, Baycourt

Fresh from a North American tour and following sell out seasons around the globe, Mrs Krishnan’s Party comes to Tauranga!

Step into the back room of Mrs Krishnan’s dairy where garlands decorate the ceiling, music flows and Mrs Krishnan is throwing a party like no other.  Food simmers on the stove, laughter abounds and strangers become friends in this joyous celebration of life.

Watch the actors juggle cooking, music and guests in an unfolding drama where no two nights are the same.  Kalyani Nagarajan and Justin Rogers have reviewers singing their praises and audiences leaping to their feet in appreciation.

We are proud to support Indian Ink's latest production as they continue to to bridge cultures and expand boundaries with this hilarious, joyous and life-affirming, party-within-a-play.

NEW SOCIALINK WEBSITE LAUNCH

Effective governance of community organisations is critical to their performance and ability to deliver essential services, often to the most vulnerable in our communities.

SociaLink's new board recruitment service provides not-for-profit organisations with a dedicated space to advertise and attract new board members. It also allows members of the public to register their interest in sitting on a not-for-profit board.

If you are a not-for-profit organisation requiring new board members, please identify the desired skills and place your ad on the website. People that have skills to share and are interested in a board position please submit your board candidacy. Both application forms can be found on
 https://socialink.org.nz/recruiting-board-members.

SociaLink is the umbrella organisation that supports and empowers the social and community sector in Tauranga and the Western Bay of Plenty district.
