My Illuminating Women Story
I've been a part of Illuminating Women for at least three-plus years. I heard of the group through a friend. I must mention that visiting yet another group and one so far from Kenmore was not at the top of my list of fun things to do! I have been in Direct Sales for many years and I really just wanted to enjoy myself and meet new people without selling! The group was fun, and I wanted to come back. I am involved in other groups, and the GSBA was one of them.
This is where I really met and got to know Jill Nichols-Hicks. We became friends and as I visited more Illuminating Women’s events the easier it became to feel comfortable. From the speakers to the guests we all have one thing at heart and that is to uplift, support and just show up with no pretense. When a group of women entrepreneurs, business owners and women who just want a safe place to land come together for great conversation and support we have success. If there is anything you may be going through these ladies are there. All women of all ethnicities are welcome.

We Choose Fear or Love
As a human, we really have only two innate beliefs or perspectives in which we experience life~ Fear and Love~ and these cannot be experienced simultaneously. In every conscious decision, we must choose between our unconscious beliefs of FEAR or of LOVE.
You see, our domestication-training on being human-by our families, our community and our cultural heritage is formed from birth to 8 years through training of our language ~ teaching the words whose meanings became pictures in our brain. Our unique “village” language formed our unconscious belief systems and our emotional responses thereafter.
Think back to childhood; weren't most of our lessons about what not to do (fear)? The word NO was a big part of our toddler-hood. Of course, we were also taught a set of virtues ~good beliefs creating love emotions-praise, hugs, sharing, kindness, etc. Unfortunately, most of us got more of one (Fear) over the other (Love)~passed to us unknowingly by each generation.
As adults, our decisions about life’s choices and passions are an unconscious balancing between our beliefs of fear and love. Our belief systems with their resulting emotions trigger action or inaction and are the inherent control of our life’s decisions about everything: money, relationships, marriage, children, education, career, success/ failure, religion, politics, cultural traditions, sex, health, happiness- everything.
My personal awakening began in 1982 when I had an unexpected life event that launched the “shift” in my belief systems. My mother died. I was angry, confused and afraid because something was deeply missing. I could no longer call her for advice to validate my belief systems in raising my children and marriage situations, let alone juggling my career vs family. And I could no longer rely on my 1950’s village beliefs because by 1982 the world had changed.
Her death launched my conscious journey to understanding what was missing. I questioned my opinions, habits and that “reason” why I was where I was in my life and not feeling happy or safe-just scared. So I suppressed my fear feelings and pushed on, yet always seeking.
After 33 years of false starts to understanding, of enduring the twists and turns of my confusing, unhappy life controlled by fear beliefs I finally had that moment of clarity in 2015~”I can choose Love over Fear”. Am I done? Hardly, but I realize it was the “village” programming of my childhood. No one can escape. It’s a human condition. I am now “consciously” aware of how my words and thoughts proclaim my beliefs reflecting either Fear or Love.
PS: I also want to publicly apologize to my children and my grandchildren, etc. I did not know!!
