Here’s what’s happening in Philadelphia.

Newsflash, Philadelphia: it’s the first full week of August. Before your feed is full of pumpkin-spiced everything and you’re breaking out the sweaters, you’ve got work to do. If there were any activities, pop-up workouts, rooftop yoga, or summer dishes you’ve had on your bucket list, now’s the time to get to it! Plus, there are some pretty awesome updates in the health and fitness world in Philly this week AND BEYOND!

🌮 Salute to Honest Tom

It wasn’t too long ago that West Philly’s Honest Tom’s went totally plant-based. As if that didn’t shake up our world enough, owner Tom McCusker (yes, he’s that Tom) announced he’s leaving the world of vegan tacos and diving into a new endeavor: a fruit and alkaline food delivery/pickup program tentatively titled @fruitadelphia. He’s leaving his shop keys in the capable hands of three longtime employees, who will be opening a Mexican restaurant concept to rival any in the city (so you’ll still be able to get your taco fix)!

🏖 KG Strong at the Shore

Doing pretty much anything by the water is monumentally better, right? So, that must apply to working out, too. Find out just how much better during KG Strong’s weekly "Bells by the Bay" workouts in Stone Harbor. Every Saturday morning in August, local gym Bayside Fitness is hosting Philly instructor Katie Gould for an all-level kettlebell class — and rumor has it you can dive right in the water afterward. Talk about a cool-down!

🎨 Art and Athleisure

Mural Arts and lululemon are kicking off a month-long partnership starting with a First Friday event August 2 featuring complimentary drinks, a photography exhibit, and mingling amongst the must-have athleisure. Then, the following three Tuesdays, you can meet at lululemon locations across the city for fun runs through different neighborhoods that highlight some of the city’s most noteworthy murals. Check out their Facebook event for more details.

🌽 Farm to Table, Produce to the People

We're wild about Greensgrow Farms and, with locations in Fishtown and West Philly, their mission of making locally sourced, healthy eats accessible to all is only growing stronger. Support them while enjoying a delicious farm-to-table meal September 28 during their Farm Dinner at Greensgrow West. Dine on food sourced from their local network of farmers, sip on cider courtesy of Hale & True Cider Co., and rock out to live music. Tickets just went on sale, so don’t miss out!

💪 November Project Is On Their Game

Accountability can make or break our will to work out in the summer. And no one makes accountability more fun than November Project Philadelphia. In the past few weeks, they’ve thrown a Christmas in July-themed workout, hosted a run ending at the intersection of South Philly’s favorite cheesesteak rivalry, and, yesterday’s fun, dressed up for a Harry Potter day. We’re so busy planning our outfits, we kind of forget that we’re drenched in sweat before most of our friends wake up. And we can’t wait to see what’s next! Remember: “Just show up.”

The Misconduct Mile
Let’s get one thing straight: this fun run is not exactly the most aptly named. In fact, when you do the math, the distance between the two Misconduct Taverns is just about one kilometer. But, for a race that doesn’t take itself too seriously, there are some pretty awesome perks — from a medal to pre- and post-run beers and a burger. Plus, all proceeds go to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

Yoga in Rittenhouse Square Park
There's nowhere we'd rather be all summer long than Rittenhouse Square. So, when we found out The Rittenhouse Hotel was hosting weekly outdoor yoga classes, we jumped at the chance! Grab your mat and meet at the luxe hotel, where you’ll then be led to the heart of the city for a refreshing (totally free) flow.

🎉 In Other News

Nothing says summertime quite like a block party. And no one does a block party better than the 2nd Street Festival in Northern Liberties! We're talking noon to 10pm, when streets are full of live music, crafts, drinks, eats, and performers. You know there’s going to be an after-party, too — the bars and restaurants lining 2nd Street will make it easy to keep the good times going.

ShoutOuts

Shoutout to @gorillapwr, the crew known for throwing some epic, sky-high pop-up workouts, for launching their plant-based Gorilla Power Fuel bars. We’re not sure how they did it, but these 100% vegan bars (available in flavors like Chocolate Chunk) pack a ton of protein. Their first batch sold out almost instantly, and we’re already stoked to try their second round!
Reformer Pilates studio @freehousefitness is hiring! Shoot alex@freehousefitness.com an email for more details!
