Heritage Open Days (w/e of 14th & 15th September)

Although this is the 25th anniversary of the start of Heritage Open Days, Aldermaston has only taken part in the past few years.

This year the History Group is joining with Teresa Thomas (church warden of St Mary's church) and her team in the church to expand the event to 2 days this year.

We are looking for helpers for 1-2hrs to either help in the church or at the lock-up on either or both days. Please consider volunteering and helping out to promote the heritage of our lovely area.

Digitised Archives

"Aldermaston Virtual Museum"

National Heritage FundSince being awarded £9500 by the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) to develop a new website for Aldermaston History, we have had an empty site built by CommunitySites of Brighton. This was prepared ready for the training of 6 History Group members in June this year. The training was on three main areas:
  • Catalogue entry - for storing images and other digitised assets
  • Story publishing - creation of web pages using the digitised assets and appropriate text
  • website maintenance
Currently the team of Ange Boott, Chris Boott, Jean Chapman, Peter Hulme, Peter Oldridge and Tony Girling are entering the information for that we committed to create in our HLF application.

We are hoping to launch the web site this September/October to make it accessible to all on the internet.

If you would like to be involved or have a story that you want telling talk to any of us or email either Peter Hulme (chair@aldermastonhistory.uk) or Chris Boott (vicechair@aldermastonhistory.uk)

Oral Histories

As part of the HLF funding project is training of volunteers on how to make and edit oral history recordings. Karen Dignan and Jean Chapman are currently organising the one-day training course, to be held in the village. We are not sure how many places we have on the course but if you are interested please contact Karen or Jean.
