Interim Director of Christian Education!

|
Last month we welcomed Kirsten Vargo as Interim Director of Christian Education! Kirsten will now be assisting with the planning, development and implementation of the Church's Christian Education program.
More about Kirsten:
Kirsten is also the Chair of the Board of Christian Education; a regular volunteer at Church events such as the annual festivals, dinners, and youth activities; and a Sunday School teacher. Kirsten is married to fellow Church member Chris, and their son Mikey is part of the Sunday School class.

Travel to Athens with us - without setting foot outside of our community - and become a part of Paul's journey to share the truth of Jesus! Each day, become a part of history to see, hear, touch, and even taste what it was like to live in Ancient Athens! Explore the Marketplace, visit Paul, take part in games, dance to lively Bible songs, and sample tasty tidbits - all to discover more about Paul's missionary adventures. These experiences make God's word come alive with new meaning for all who participate!

The mission emphasis for the month of August is the Fisher House West Haven. Fisher House is a home away from home of families of veterans being treated at a VA hospital that do not live near a VA hospital. We in West Haven are fortunate to have a VA hospital in our city and it is not a problem to see our loved ones being treated there. But this is not the case for some families of our veterans. Not every community has a VA in their town; veterans are sometimes transported far from their local community, family and friends. We all know that staying in hotels for an extended period is unaffordable to most and commuting is not always possible.
There are 72 Fisher Houses in operation and now, Fisher House in West Haven has opened their doors and now needs funds to help with the day to day expenses. This is a way for all of us to fulfill our church’s Mission Statement by reaching out to our “beloved wider community” and also to thank those who have served our country. Please consider donating to Fisher House-West Haven by using the small brown envelopes. Thank you!

Rev Carl will continue hosting two weekly Bible Studies. One will be a general Bible study Mondays from 1 - 2PM, the other will be an in-depth, verse by verse Bible study Wednesdays from 7 - 8PM. Click on the links above to learn more.

A note from member Mary Jane McQuarrie -
On each coin are the words In God We Trust. Using these words as a prayer beginning, I have previously asked the congregation to complete the sentence with thoughts: 1st for a settled pastor which we now have, and 2nd for the broken structures of our church which need to be rebuilt and brought back to their original glories. Holding the penny and saying or thinking the prayer give a point where each of us can reach out for God's help at any time and or place. There is a unity of spirit in these prayers, something that is needed along with these other projects.
