TO: Virginia DMV Highway Safety Office Personnel
FROM: Erin Schrad, VACP Communications Manager & LEC Coordinator

Below is the Virginia Law Enforcement Challenge Awards announcement I just sent to the entering agencies. As always, we welcome your attendance at the LEC Awards Luncheon (Tues. Aug 27) as we recognize these agencies for their commitment to traffic safety. If you can attend, please RSVP to me, Erin Schrad, at erin@vachiefs.org, by Tuesday, August 13. Just be aware I'll probably put you to work if you attend! :)

We will also be having a Virginia Highway Safety Committee Meeting immediately following the luncheon on Tuesday in a room TBD. It's scheduled for 1:30-3:00 pm, but may start earlier as the luncheon often ends early.

Also, please be aware that, on Monday morning of the VACP Annual Conference, William Georges (retired Asst. Chief, Albany NY Police Dept.) and Keith Williams (NHTSA) will be presenting on "Traffic Safety: Does Your Agency Reap All of the Benefits It Can Produce?" This is a new NHTSA training program being piloted at the VACP Conference. If you want to attend just this presentation, let me know. We also welcome you registering for the FULL conference so that you may network with our attendees.  Registration is on our website at https://www.vachiefs.org/ev_calendar_day.asp?date=8/25/2019&eventid=58

2019 Virginia Law Enforcement Challenge Awards

~Recognizing excellence in traffic safety efforts in Virginia for 30 years~

Awards to be presented Tuesday, August 27 in Norfolk, VA

Thank you to everyone for entering this year! 2019 marks the thirtieth – yes, 30th – year of the Virginia Law Enforcement Challenge and many of you have been entering for most, if not ALL, of those years. The program has seen many changes over the decades and we so appreciate those of you who have stuck with the program through its many evolutions.

With the elimination of the National LE Challenge at IACP a couple years ago, the Virginia Challenge is now free to adapt the program solely to Virginia and our agencies. The Virginia Highway Safety Committee is exploring ways that we might be able to improve the Virginia Law Enforcement Challenge to encourage the participation of more agencies from across the state as well as reduce the burden of entering the competition. To those ends, we are seeking to form a LEC Working Group to provide feedback on the Challenge Awards and the application process – if interested in being a part of the working group, please contact Erin Schrad at erin@vachiefs.org.
