Duke Neurology Research Round Up, July 2019
July 2019 saw new peer-reviewed journal articles from members of the Duke Neurology Department published on a nearly daily basis. In all, 18 articles by our faculty and trainees were published, including ones in JAMA, Neurology, and Stroke, among others, advancing neurology at the basic science, clinical and population levels. Department celebrates staff service awards
The Neurology Department recognized 11 staff members this week for their years of continued service and their contributions to advancing research, providing compassionate care, and educating the next generation of neurologists. Department Chair Rich O’Brien, MD, PhD, and other Department leaders toasted the awardees, each of whom had worked at Duke from 5 to 35 years. “Every one of you here makes a real difference in the lives of our patients and our daily lives as well,” O’Brien said. “The Neurology Department could not get along without you.” Read more.


Fellow Spotlight
 
Shravana “Deepthi” Gudivada, MD
Early during her medical training, Shravana “Deepthi” Gudivada, MD, became fascinated with sleep--both as a process and in the myriad ways sleep is important for health. Now as our new sleep medicine fellow, Gudivada spends her days treating patients with sleep disorders as well as reading and interpreting sleep studies. For her “Fellow Spotlight” interview, Gudivada talks to us about this work, her plans for the future, and why her internship still brings a smile to her face. Read more.

Duke Neurology Trivia: Wisconsin Badger Edition

As a doctoral candidate, this current member of the Neurology Department spent his time at the University of Wisconsin studying the nervous system of giant nematodes and his combing his lustrous hair and mustache.
