Council supersizes community grants

The region’s not-for-profit groups, clubs and organisations are about to get a $560,000 injection thanks to our supersized Community Grants program.
 
We have more than doubled this grant program by adding an additional category for infrastructure and assets.
 
Funding is now available for small equipment (up to $1500), community initiatives, programs, events and upgrades (up to $7500) and minor infrastructure and assets (up to $30,000).

Contractor hooked
for fishing pier

We’ve hooked a specialist civil construction company to build a new fishing platform in the Pioneer River.
 
Brisbane company Casa Engineering has landed a $1.7 million contract for construction of the new Hospital Bridge Fishing Pier.

Pool to close
for repairs

An unforeseen plant room failure at our Memorial Swim Centre has created a significant leak and will require emergency repairs.
 
The repairs, which include the removal of pipes and tiling, will require the aquatic facility to be closed for a seven-day period from Monday, August 5.
 
It is expected to reopen on August 12.

A total of 595 hours, 480 metres of second-hand pine, 37 sheets of ply, 1500 hot glue sticks, 17 glue guns, 80 rolls of tape and the equivalent of one Olympic swimming pool of cardboard was used in the making of this exhibition. The exhibition is on until August 18.

Hypnotic installation perfect escape


Our Artspace Mackay is hosting an installation that is mesmerizing, hypnotic, rhythmic and compelling.
 
A two-metre electromagnetic pendulum and projected animation now takes pride of place in Gallery Three until October 13.

Temporary access
to be closed

A temporary access off the Rosewood Drive/Reed Street roundabout at Rural View will be closed from Monday, August 5.

The access was put in place temporarily during construction works in the adjacent commercial precinct.
 
Those construction works are now complete so the temporary access, which is not a designated road, is being closed.

Record ball helps
kids in need

The 2019 Mayor’s Charity Ball broke all records and helped raise $121,000 which will make a real difference to the lives of Mackay kids impacted by domestic and family violence.
 
The event, held in late May, attracted record corporate sponsorship of $50,000 and a record attendance of 338.
