July Allotment Update
Your Allotment Association Needs You
Committee Members
We need more people to join the committee. Due to various personal circumstances a number of people are having to step from the committee this autumn and we are at risk of not having enough members. This is your chance to get involved in how things are run. It's not very taxing; we have a meeting once a month and take turns looking after the shop on a Sunday morning. Please email committee@caga.org.uk if you are interested or just want to hear more.
Mentors for new allotment holders
We are fortunate enough to be joined by new plotholders on a regular basis - but it can be difficult to know where to start if you have never had an allotment or even tried growing vegetables before. We are therefore starting a mentoring scheme. The idea is that we will pair new plot holders with someone who already has a plot, so they can provide advice and encouragement to help them get started and keep going. It is not the intention that you physically help the new plot holder - just be there to answer some questions and give them some hope. If you think you could help, even just in a small way, please email committee@caga.org.uk and we'll put you on our list. Don't worry, we won't actually pair you up without checking back with you.
Working party
We are going to be cutting the hedge on the driveway on Sunday 18 August at 9am. If you have an hour or to two to spare, please come and give us a hand. We'll meet at the shop at 9am - or just follow the noise.
Boundary Fence
The fence behind plots 60-87 has now been replaced. Please note: In accordance with the rules, please keep one meter clear from fence. This was not strictly enforced before, but it will be from now on.
Annual BBQ
The annual BBQ will be on 10 August. If you have not had an invite yet, please get in touch asap.
Based on suggestions from from allotment holders, we tried to organise the BBQ this year so it could include children. Unfortunately, we ran into practical problems with this, which we'll try to solve for next year. Apologies to anyone having their hopes dashed.
Annual plot competition
The annual plot judging competition has now taken place and the winners will be announced at the BBQ. Thank you to Mike and the judge for all their hard work.
Open Gardens and Scarecrow Competition
The annual scarecrow competition in June was a great success - thanks Diane! The winners were Maisy Edwards and Zachary Kent. See their winning entries on the website.
June and July committee meeting
The minutes for this and last month's committee meetings are now on our website.
Thank you for reading.
