New school district this year? Let us know

Over the summer did you change school districts? If so, we need to know. Changing school districts is like changing employers. We will need to let your new school district know in order to continue your 403b contributions. Otherwise your contributions will stop once you are no longer employed by your previous district.

Get a pay raise? Shelter it from taxes

Several school districts have either approved or are in negotiations for pay increases for both classified and certificated employees. Depending on your pay, this could mean hundreds of extra dollars each month in addition to "retro" pay. Taxes will take a considerable portion of the pay raise, so why not add to your 403b, thus keeping your taxes low, earn high er interest, and build your retirement savings that much faster? Do you know a school employee who isn't contributing? Let us know and we can help.

Our class needs paper, pencils, and glue sticks. Any donations?

Every new school year teachers are faced with needing some basic essentials, such as pencils, markers, paper, post-its...the list goes on and on. These items, though needed, are often not provided for by the district. What that means for teachers is that they have to reach deeper into their own pockets to pay for them or do without. A third alternative is to ask parents to donate items. It's very common for teachers to have a "wish list" to contribute.

As our way of helping, anyone who would like to donate items to a classroom please contact us. Likewise if you have a "wish list" of items needed please let us know. We'll match those needing items with those donating. In addition, following are some websites to help make your back-to-school experience a little more affordable:

Waite a minute
By Jim Waite

August already? Where did summer go? Just when I thought triple digit temperatures had ushered in summer vacation, it's now coming to  a close. It's now time to gear up for school. I realize that it's not only kids that don't look forward to school starting again, likewise many teachers feel the same way. I mean for kids it's getting up early, going to class and doing countless hours of homework. For teachers it's getting up early, going to class and grading countless hours of homework. How about making life easier for both students and teachers alike and start school a couple hours later and toss out all homework for starters.
August, in addition to school starting, has been an eventful month for us in other ways. We have two birthdays and our anniversary. I never dreamed that almost 37 years and ten kids later that last August we would face our youngest son being diagnosed with bone cancer and a week later my father passing away.  This past year has been one of healing and blessings. Our son is now cancer free and starting to walk again on his own two feet. Through a miracle we got a second opinion and were able to save our son's leg from an amputation. His bone has grown back and is now being strengthened. A blessing and miracle. My father's passing has likewise given us greater appreciation for life and the importance of not taking anything for granted. Dad was a great man and blessed so many lives, especially mine.
I just received my second children's book, Better than Best: Be a Friend, from the publisher the other day. This August is already off to  a great start! I know what the world doesn't need is another book, but it's something I enjoy doing and hope someone out there will enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.
So with August here and a new school year upon us, my recommendation is to soak up every last drop of summer, enjoy every moment with your family and make this coming school year the best one ever! And if you need a couple of books to read to your class or kids at home I can make a recommendation for that too.
