PRESS RELEASE
Opioids Awareness Music Festival
Top Ohio Indie Bands, Speakers & Agencies Unite To Fight The Opioid Crisis
Kent, OH - Ohioans are increasingly suffering from the effects of the opioid crisis. With over 70,000 deaths caused by overdose in 2017, Ohio is experiencing the second highest rate of fatal overdoses in the United States. Countless lives and families have been affected by this epidemic in some way, and many in our community have decided that it is time to do something about it.
Local musicians, knowledgeable speakers, and the addiction recovery programs of Family & Community Services have teamed up to plan an Opioid Awareness Music Festival for August 11, 2019 in the Hometown Bank Plaza in Kent. The program will be unique in that the speakers, musicians and programs will all be working together to involve event attendees in taking action to help spread awareness of opioid addiction in their own lives.
“Almost all of us now know a friend or family member who has been devastatingly affected. We want this to be a positive event that will create a ripple effect to spread awareness and make a significant and lasting impact in defeating the opioid crisis,” Explains Tom Letizia, the music coordinator of the Opioid Awareness Music Festival.
Eight exciting indie bands will perform at the event, speakers and experts will give short talks between bands, multiple recovery agencies and resource programs will be exhibiting, and delicious local food vendors will be on site during the festival. Proceeds from the event will benefit the addiction recovery programs of Family & Community Services, including Root House, the Portage Area Recovery Center (PARC) and the On Track to Recovery (OTTR) program. Those interested in participating as volunteers or event sponsors can contact Families & Community Services at 330-297-7027 ext. 305. Visit fcsserves.org for more information.
