We've started making bio-char to create some Terra Preta soil. (A mixture of chrushed lump charcoal, compost, soil and organic fertilizer) For many years it was believed that the Amazon had such poor soil it could never support a population of any size. Now with LIDAR, we can see through the canopy and now know there were cities inhabited by millions... It turns out there are millions of hectares of a black manmade soil called Terra Preta. A living soil that remains fertile for thousands of years. So much we don't know or have forgotten about our own distant past. We'll be adding it to our beds a bin at at a time.
