What is Kristin up to?

Best of Both Worlds
I love to teach and as many of you know, I was an elementary school teacher when Scott and I met. At the time we married Cru required both husband and wife to serve full time together with Cru. I wholeheartedly embraced the call to join Scott in serving middle and high school students, helping them know and walk with Christ. Cru played a significant role in my spiritual growth as a high school student and I welcomed the opportunity to do the same for others.

The first few years in ministry in Chattanooga my teaching gifts were used discipling girls. In Orlando during the early years of raising our family when Scott moved from direct field ministry to his coaching ministry, God opened opportunities to use my gifts in children's ministry and then women's ministry at University Presbyterian Church. Here in Indy, much of my focus has been children's and women's ministries at Christ Community Church, but also supporting our kids and others as they lived on mission at Clay Middle School and Carmel High School.

In 2014 I stepped back into direct student ministry at Carmel, serving and helping student leaders and volunteers provide a caring community where students can connect with Christ and one another. Leaving the elementary classroom 29 years ago when I married Scott and joined him on staff with Cru has never been a regret. I have loved using the gifts God has given me to win, build and send others, including our own children, in the varied contexts in which He directed my steps.

In recent years Cru has changed their policy on requiring both husband and wife to be on staff together. This change in policy along with the arrival this fall of a full time staff gal to lead the Carmel ministry presented the opportunity to consider stepping back into the world of education, a mission field that has been near and dear to Scott's and my heart  for years.

As we sought the Lord for wisdom and direction, He answered. I have accepted a position as a Building IA at an elementary school in Carmel. I will be working with the 4th and 5th grade teaching teams We are excited about the potential of bringing my current classroom experiences to the conversation with college students preparing to enter the classroom in the future, as well as exploring the possibility of partnering with Child Evangelism Fellowship to start a Good News Club

I will continue to serve as Affiliate Staff with Cru, helping Carolyn, Cru’s new team leader at Carmel, as I am able. I'm excited to live out what we prepare our Educators Summer Mission students for with Cru DNA informing how I navigate these opportunities.

Heights of Excitement
A few weeks ago I was invited to meet with several interested folks from a community not too far from where we live.  These folks heard that Cru could potentially start in their school and they wanted to hear more about it. I came along as the person who would serve the local leader should potential become reality.

I was excited to hear from parents who wanted a place for their students to grow in Christ.  Teachers think that a ministry like ours could have an eternal impact with their students. And the pastors in attendance see us as a unifier for churches too small to create the type a presence to excite both churched and unchurched students.  It was a great night.

Everyone left excited! The parents are both encouraged and willing to do the work to make it happen.  The teachers offered their room, were willing to sponsor the group and serve in other ways. A pastor offered his youth director to be one of the two point people for the school and we talked through a few of the next steps we can take.  This was a slam dunk meeting that should bear fruit in this more rural community very quickly. I am excited to be able to coach the local leader launch a movement in this community not too far from home!

Cru 19
The middle of July Kristin and I headed to Fort Collins, CO for the every other year gathering of our national staff.  3,000 staff and children converge on the Colorado State campus.  We focused on evangelism and the inclusion of every tribe, tongue and nation in the body of Christ.

A couple  of the highlights for us were catching up with staff friends and hearing about all that God is doing throughout the globe through our ministry and those we partner with.  Another part that we also look forward to is the guest speakers we hear from.  They are all good and I encourage you to use the link to go listen to them to be encouraged and edified—Cru 19 Link

A special experience for me was the story of a student I discipled shared in one of the main sessions.  Hung was a student at Hixson High School (Chattanooga), and currently serves as director of our ministry in Long Beach, CA.  Listen to hear the dramatic story of his family escaping Viet Nam when he was a small child—Hung Talk.

Praise God with us & Pray for us
School Zones are Prayer Zones!  The battle for the heart and soul of students is very real.  As you pass by a school and the signs begin to flash again, pray for all the believers who are impacting the halls of the schools where were Scott is coaching movements.  Use the following as a guide!

PRAISE GOD WITH US:
...God’s provision of the IA (instructional assistant) position at a Carmel High School for the fall!
...Exciting opportunity to launch a new campus in the area via coaching!
...Safe travel to and from Colorado and the short trip we had to Chattanooga!

PRAY WITH US FOR:

...there are two Education Summits planned in the next year.  Asking God to give us wisdom and favor as we plan, invite and host local educators and seek to equip and encourage them.

...Kristin and I as we move into a new normal with Kristin’s new job (strength, wisdom, quality time together, etc.).

...In order to continue the work God has called us to, trusting God will call others to partner with us financially.

School Zone … just pray!

Humbled and Excited!
