Oakmont Art Association eNewsletter,  August 2019

(No General Meetings over the summer until September.)

President's Letter

Its summertime, and not much is happening until the September meeting, with Alfred Escoffier speaking about the Ed Hardy exhibition.  This will be out of our usual area, since Hardy was a tattooist!

There are a few items everyone should know about.  The first is that we voted to establish an honorary membership for the OAA.  The board felt that we have several members who have contributed their time and efforts for many years, and that they should be rewarded with honorary memberships in recognition of their services and interest.  If any of you reading this have been members continuously for 10 or more years and are older than 90 years, please contact us at oakmontart@gmail.com or 707 529-4587.

Unfortunately we only have complete membership rolls going back five years, but we trust you to tell us if you have been a member for more than 10 years!

I realized while we were organizing the art we hung in the East Rec Center and the OVA Offices how many great photographers we have in the OAA.  I wondered if there were some activities we could specifically direct towards their interests.  If anyone reading this has thoughts about this, send me an email.  There is an email button at the end of this to do this directly.  I have never been in a photography club, so I don't know what is involved, but I can think of several areas that might be interesting.  Whether we develop this idea depends on how much interest there is, so let me know.

The last thing is our need for officers.  We need a corresponding secretary to take notes during our board meetings, which is an hour's time commitment a month.  We need a trip director to organize trips to the city, usually done on a bus, but we have considered car pooling to the museums as well.  We also need a greeter for our meetings and a publicity director.  Step up and help us if you can.

Herbst Exhibition Galleries

The first museum retrospective of renowned tattoo artist and California native Ed Hardy tracks his goal of elevating the tattoo from its subculture status to an important visual art form. The exhibition surveys Hardy’s life in art that has as its inspiration both traditional American tattooing and Japan’s ukiyo-e era culture

Classes and Workshops

Contact Dan Fishman at dfishman@pacbell.net to sign up for Cat's class.

Some pictures from the Wine and Chocolate event.  It was a great success with more than 90 people attending.  All the chocolates were consumed!
