Since the mid-1980swhen a group of forward-thinking artists petitioned the City of Miami and Miami-Dade County to support a permanent site for artists in the heart of the citythe Bakehouse Art Complex has emerged as a center for necessary dialogue and cultural production. As the institution enters its third decade amid a fast-paced developmental landscape, Bakehouse leaders are focused on creating a sustainable strategic plan that maintains its mission to support artists at its core. Along with providing affordable, subsidized studio space for some of the most compelling artists working in Miami, the five-year plan includes building affordable housing for local cultural producers while enhancing opportunities for artists that call the Bakehouse home.

Introducing Bakehouse Rising:
Meet Artists Driving Miami’s Cultural Evolution

To kick off our forward trajectory, the Bakehouse Art Complex is launching Bakehouse Rising, an online journal featuring intimate conversations with Bakehouse artists. Designed specifically for local and national collectors, curators, critics, gallerists, and culture seekers, Bakehouse Rising is an opportunity to get to know our artists and their practice. Each month, we’ll interview two Bakehouse artists about their work and their place within Miami and the broader cultural context. These interviews will appear on our website and be delivered straight to your inbox if you choose to subscribe.
