As always things have been extremely busy for the Val's team - again with many events, conferences, community engagement and development activities and of course preparations for the forthcoming National LGBT&I Ageing & Aged Care Conference. We have also delivered an unprecedented amount of LGBTI ageing and aged care training and awareness information sessions, and continue to receive many enquiries with an almost a full calendar for the second half of 2019. This has certainly been influenced by the new aged care quality standards and their requirements around LGBTI responsiveness, and also the always growing aim or commitment to LGBTI awareness, service development and continuous improvement in the ageing and aged care sectors. As such we are planning and programming sessions at the Conference to assist with these aims, and ongoing LGBTI commitment and capacity building. We are also working on a new suite of resources for service providers which we are hoping to share in the lead-up to, and at the Conference.
Ageing with Pride
4th National LGBTI Ageing & Aged Care Conference 2019
Val's is again pleased to present the 4th National LGBT&I Ageing & Aged Care Conference, Ageing with Pride: the new landscape of LGBT&I ageing in Australia together with our co-host the National LGBTI Health Alliance Silver Rainbow Project, and conference partner The Coming Back Out Ball/All the Queens Men. Over the coming weeks we will be announcing our wonderful sponsors - including our principal sponsors, both Rainbow Ticked organisations. As always we are very thankful for the sponsorship support we receive for this event.
We are really excited about the preliminary program (see below) and we are currently finalising some key workshops and reviewing abstracts for the development of the final program. As has occurred at previous conferences, the participation of older LGBT&I people in the program is paramount, and again they have some amazing stories, experiences and insights to share this year.
So not only make sure you save the dates - 24 & 25 October 2019 - Novotel on Collins, Melbourne - but please don't wait til October to register. Places are very limited particularly this year with our new cabaret style seating. | SMR LGBTI Community of Practice Forum |

| The Southern Metropolitan Region recently hosted a LGBTI community engagement and participation forum to assist services in the region working with older people to understand the experiences and needs of LGBTI older people and importantly include them in the design and delivery of care and support services. Val's co-facilitated the event with Katie Goodrope, SMR Diversity Advisor. The day was supported by the regional PCPs and was extremely well attended with over 100 participants - both service providers and older LGBTI people. The community of practice event focused on engagement strategies, approaches and opportunities, with services, many of whom have Rainbow Tick accreditation or substantial LGBTI inclusive service development, sharing their experiences along with older LGBTI people. We hope to develop or contribute to more forums in 2020. |

| Private Lives 3 National Survey |

Private Lives 3 is a national study that explores the health and well-being of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTIQ) people living in Australia. This study will provide much-needed data to inform health, support, and other services, as well as deliver a better understanding of the experiences of LGBTIQ people today. It is conducted by the Australian Research Centre in Sex, Health and Society (ARCSHS) at La Trobe University, and is funded by the Victorian Government Department of Health and Human Services.
You are invited to complete this survey if you are aged 18 years or older, living in Australia, and identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, gender diverse, intersex, or other related identities. Or share the survey with clients, residents or amongst your networks to ensure the voices of older LGBTI people are included.

Uniting NSW has a longstanding commitment to the delivery of LGBTI inclusive aged care services. The first faith-based service in Australia to obtain Rainbow Tick accreditation, and also a member of Pride in Diversity and Pride in Health and Wellbeing, they are keen to hear from LGBTI people using or looking to use aged care services in order to continue to improve the lives of LGBTI people accessing care and support.

| Housing issues for older LGBTI people |
| |
Housing for the Aged Action Group is a not-for-profit organisation that works with older people to achieve housing justice. They are working with a group of LGBTI organisations on a project to find out about the housing circumstances for older LGBTI people, their knowledge of what options are available and what their future needs may be in relation to safe and affordable housing.
They want to hear from LGBTI+ people over 50 who are interested in sharing experiences of housing, your understanding of housing options for older people and how you currently find information and access services. They are hoping to speak to a range of people from all walks of life to hear about their housing circumstances – where do you currently live? Where would you like to live in the future? Do you have concerns about your housing? Do you know what your options are and where to get information?
They are also seeking people who want to be heard and be active around housing issues for older LGBTI people, to work towards improving the system.
