August Happenings!


July was a blast with Summer camps and Wine & Paint nights and our biggest month EVER at Studio on Main!  But we have even more fun in store for you in August and September like our Fall classes and Duvall Art and Wine Walk 2019!

Me and My Room Clay Camp - Aug 5-9

 

We will make personalized projects for the young artist's room; things to corral odds and ends, things to decorate the walls and brighten any room. We will use the potters' wheel, slabs, coils and sculpting techniques as well as some fun glazing and decorating methods. Ages 7-12

Art on the Farm Oxbow Aug 5-9

This is a magical week making art outdoors and exploring Oxbow Farm and Conservation Center. Campers create a range of art using different art mediums from paint, pastel, paper mache, and more to explore the farm, fields of vegetables, flowers, seeds and more. Craft an outdoor bee house, and work on an outdoor art installation. Make TyeDye Tshirts. Explore the fields and forest with an Oxbow farm instructor. Go on a hayride. Climb on a magical bubble blowing tractor and play in the children’s living tunnel. Make berry popsicles with berries you pick on a special Popsicle making bicycle! Go on nature walks and be inspired to build fairy and gnome homes, hide your painted rocks and more.

Fall Fawn - Misty Valley Farm Wine and Paint Night - Aug 9

Paint this adorable fawn wearing a sunflower in time for Fall! Pre-traced fawn makes this an easy and fun lesson. This painting also makes a great companion to the Spring Bunny, or Annabelle's Debut.

This fun, step-by-step lesson includes all materials and wine!

Popup Story Books Camp - Aug 12-15

Design, write and illustrate your very own pop-up book! Campers will enjoy the fun art of storytelling while learning many clever tricks of “Paper Engineering”. Pop-up techniques will include sliding mechanisms, spirals, rotating windows, springs, hinged doors and more! Campers will then take home their very own pop-up story book that they authored and illustrated themselves! This surely will be one of your child’s ultimate art keepsakes that will be treasured for years!

Take Apart Tech August 12

There will be all kinds of things you can take apart from printers, to computers, to blenders and more!

Students will have a chance to truly wonder, ask questions, take risks, and have no fear of doing something wrong!

The Breaker Space is a work station in a makerspace that has "misfit" toys and other broken electronics for students to disassemble and discover with.

 



Paint Me A Story, A Very Hungry Caterpillar - August 13th 

Join us for Summer story time and enjoy one of our favorite stories from the school year. Listen to a story and paint a book themed pottery piece.

Your toddler or preschooler will listen to a fun interactive story and paint a theme related piece of pottery.

This month we are reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle and painting a plate.

This class is perfect for ages 2 and up with parent participation. Instructor: Julie Gunn


Ice Cream Pottery Painting Aug 16

I Scream for Ice Cream!

Stay cool this summer and personalize your own ice cream sundae bowl. For inspiration, we will make and eat ice cream sundaes! We will also do an ice cream related art project.

Plant Night - Layered Sand & Succulent Terrarium - August 17th 

Create your own layered sand & succulent terrarium at our Studio on Main. 

You have the choice of live succulents or faux succulents, so grab your friends and join us!

At the bottom of the Checkout page, please select either the live succulent or faux succulent option. You can't tell the difference, so if you don't have a green thumb then faux is your friend!

Drop in to Studio on Main to check out our live and faux succulent sample terrariums.

Ticket Price: $45 includes refreshments, materials and guided terrarium instruction.

Under the Sea Pottery Painting Camp Aug 19-20

Dive into summer with underwater pottery painting! 
We will make a functional piece of art that doubles as a beach-themed Tic Tac Toe game. We will blow bubbles to create the background of our Octopus tile. These pieces will be fired in our kiln and available for pickup the following week. We will also use quick-drying acrylic paints to paint an underwater figurine so your camper will have something to take home at the end of camp.

Marvelous Mosaics & Splatter Painting - Aug 19-20 


Create your own original mosaic. Mosaics can be decorative and functional and we will create both using wooden and ceramic bases with glass tiles on the surface. We will learn to grout our completed creations. We will also use the Splatter Room to splatter paint on a stretched canvas!

Sunflower Welcome Sign - Cherry Valley Wine & Paint - Aug 22

Paint this lovely welcome sign on an 11”x17” wood palette while enjoying a glass of wine at Cherry Valley Winery. Step-by-step instructions make this a fun and easy paint night, so grab your friends and join us! Get a stamp on your Paint Night Stamp Card, and your 6th event is FREE!

Additional wine is available for purchase by the glass or bottle at the winery. Cheese baskets are also available for purchase.

Robot-U Lego Robotics Camp - Aug 26-30

The Ultimate week of creative LEGO building and robotics. Campers will have a week of experimental LEGO robotic building with almost 100 different builds for all ages and abilities. They can build working walking trumpeting elephants, fully functional RC racers, color sorting machines, and so, so much more. Our robotics enthusiast instructors will be there to guild our campers to go even deeper into the engineering and programming abilities of the materials.

Younger campers will be in one group and Older campers will be in another group, for those parents or campers concerned about the age range! Feel free to email us with questions info@northwestartcenter.org!


All Around the House Clay Camp Aug 26-30

We will create awesome items for all around the house and garden; things to eat from, something special for my room and clay works great for garden art too!  Students will enjoy the satisfaction of creating artwork from scratch and bringing it to its final completion.  We will use the potters' wheel, slabs, coils and sculpting techniques as well as some fun glazing and decorating methods
