Charities pump £3 billion into UK Brain Bank
Two AMRC members have announced £3 million of funding for Europe's largest brain and tissue bank, based in London. The funds from the MS Society and Parkinson's UK will enable an all-new digital brain bank, ambitious virtual reality initiative, and new research projects.

Five million volunteers to have DNA analysed
Millions of NHS patients will have their genetic information analysed and used for research into predictive medicine under a new programme from Genomics England, called Accelerating Detection of Disease (ADD).

Stroke Association and Medcity collaboration
MedCity and Stroke Association have entered into a collaboration agreement to identify and support the development of digital health therapeutics and medical devices for patients and carers living with the long-term health impact of stroke.

Google's DeepMind AI predicts acute kidney injury
Artificial Intelligence can predict acute kidney injury (AKI) 48 hours before it happens, according to new research. DeepMind said that working alongside experts from the US Department of Veterans Affairs, it has developed the technology to predict the condition affecting 100,000 people in the UK every year.

Prime Minister Johnson appoints new cabinet
Prime Minister Boris Johnson MP has announced his new Cabinet. 18 cabinet ministers, including leadership contender Jeremy Hunt, quit or were sacked by Mr Johnson in a considerable re-shuffle. One of the few to remain in-post is Matt Hancock.

Treasury commits extra £2.1 billion for no-deal
As the UK’s withdrawal from the EU looks increasingly likely to occur without a deal being agreed, new Chancellor Sajid Javid has announced government are providing a further £2.1 billion to prepare for no-deal. The funding boost includes £434 million to help ensure continuity of supply of vital medicines and medical products.
