Will Native Bees be Outnumbered?

Out of around 10,000 species of bees globally, honeybees are just one. They are also the only bee that produces honey. But with their ability to pollinate vast mono crops, and their economic benefit to humans, will honeybees outcompete our local bee population? Read our Q & A with a wildlife biologist here.

Farewell to Christian Artuso

This summer Manitoba will be losing expert birder, conservation advocate, NM board member, and an all-around great person. Christian Artuso will be moving to Ottawa to take on a new position with the Canadian Wildlife Service. We would like to wish him the best of luck on this new adventure, and thank him for all he has done within the birding community of Manitoba over the years. Learn more about Christian's work here.

Manitoba's 400th Bird Species?

It has been seen, but not yet confirmed. There are 399 officially documented bird species in the province of Manitoba, and the Ash-throated Flycatcher will likely be the 400th. See the tweet from Bird Studies Canada here. We will keep you up to date when this is confirmed.

Chimney Swift Rescue Guide

This time of year is the nesting period for the threatened Chimney Swift. Sometimes a nest can fall with the chicks inside, leaving them vulnerable. There have been a few incidents like this in the last couple of years, so our MB Chimney Swift program has put together this rescue guide to help homeowners and building owners know what to do if a fallen nest is found.
