WEEHAWKEN COVE
Objectors mobilize against massive towers proposed at Weehawken Cove
In March, Hartz Mountain Industries, the developer of Lincoln Harbor, submitted an application to build a massive project at the Weehawken Cove abutting the planned Rebuild by Design park in Hoboken. Neighboring residents from Weehawken, Union City and Hoboken have attended the Weehawken Planning Board hearings objecting to the building heights — two 18-story towers exceeding 200 feet — and scale — nearly 100 percent lot coverage. The Fund for a Better Waterfront is now represented at the hearings by its land-use attorneys from Miller, Porter & Muller of Princeton, New Jersey.

MONARCH TOWERS
Tentative agreement reached for public open space on Monarch Pier by transferring development rights to Municipal Garage site
The administration of Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla has negotiated a tentative agreement with Shipyard Associates to hold off developing the proposed Monarch Towers project. This agreement is contingent on the City and Shipyard successfully negotiating a development agreement for the Municipal Garage site located on Observer Highway between Willow and Park. The final remaining court case, now scheduled to be heard by the NJ Supreme Court, will be allowed to move forward. FBW has been a party to this case since 2011 and is analyzing the proposed agreement scheduled to come before the Hoboken City Council in August. Of primary concern to FBW is that the developer provide sufficient funds to complete the waterfront park and walkway at the Monarch pier.
We believe that successful waterfronts begin with sound planning, time-tested urban design and an understanding that the water's edge belongs to the public.
