My dear Parish Family,

This year's Vacation Bible Camp will start on Monday, July 29th and will end on August 2nd, Friday. The VBC is always a fun, exciting and learning experience for our parish children.

This year they will journey to many places and countries where our Blessed Mother has appeared, often to little children. Children have the simple, faith and trust attitude that Jesus calls all of us to emulate. "Unless you become like little children, you cannot enter the kingdom of heaven."

May our children during the Vacation Bible Camp come closer to our Lord and to our Blessed Mother.

I want to sincerely thank Nancy Royal, Nicole Ruiz, Rae Almeida and their many teen and adult volunteers who have worked hard and tirelessly to put this Camp together.

Happy Summer!

Father George Aranha
Pastor

Fiesta for Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage

Saturday, July 27th
8:30am Mass
Fiesta to Follow

Each year, our Filipino  community honors Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage, popularly known in the Philippines as Virgin of Antipolo. We call on her protection in our travels especially during the summer season. This tradition started over 400 years ago when the statue of Our Lady was brought by sailors on board their trading ships for protection as they traveled across the dangerous sea between Manila, Philippines, and Acapulco, Mexico.

This year our Filipino community at Santa Teresa Church will honor Our Lady and thank her for her intercession for the many good voyages of Filipino workers to America. From farm workers to doctors, nurses, teachers, engineers, and caregivers, we Filipinos have made our voyages over the years to bring our skills and knowledge to make a good life in America and to support our relatives in the Philippines.

We will thank God and our Our Lady in a special way on Saturday, July 27, with a traditional Philippine Fiesta. Our fiesta will include a Holy Mass at 8:30 AM in the church, presentation and games at 10:00 AM, and hospitality lunch at 11:00 AM at Avila Hall. We are requesting Filipino participants to bring their specialty Filipino dishes to share in this POTLUCK FIESTA.

Please come and celebrate with us on Saturday, July 27, here at Santa Teresa in Avila Hall.  With your participation we hope to make this fiesta a yearly tradition.

For more info, call Lourdes Dohi at (408) 421-5717 or Edwin Torralba at (408) 497-4972.

Creating a Culture of Vocations
Don’t forget to sign up for your family to participate!

As we continue to create a culture of vocation in our parish we are asking for one family from every Mass to sign up to pray the vocation prayer daily promoting a culture of vocations for an entire week.  Then that family will bring it back to Mass so that Father can present it to the next family.  There is a signup sheet in the vestibule to pick a date and Mass time for your family.

The prayer is on the front page of our bulletins or you can pick up prayer cards in the vestibule basket under the signup sheet.
Low Gluten Host

There is good news for Catholics with Celiac disease!  It is now possible for you to receive Holy Communion with a low gluten host.

Please contact Lynda DeManti at lynda@santateresachurch.com or call the office 408-629-7777 ext. 101 to arrange a time when she can review the procedure with you.
The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick
will be Celebrated Saturday, August 3rd
at the 8:30 a.m. Mass

Every month on the first Saturday we celebrate the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick.  After the homily, Fr. George will invite those who are in need of the grace of God's healing for physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual reasons to come forward and be anointed with the Oil of the Sick. As Father  anoints each person on the forehead and palms of the hands he will say, “Through this holy anointing may the Lord in  his love and mercy help you with the grace of his Holy Spirit. May the Lord who frees you from sin save you and raise you up.” The person responds “Amen”.  Come and celebrate this Sacrament.

"Through this holy anointing may the
Lord in his love and mercy
help you with the grace of his Holy Spirit.
May the Lord who frees you  from sin,
save you and raise you up."

Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA)
"I have called You by Name, You are Mine"
... an invitation to join the journey.

Although there may be a certain life event that prompts a person to become a Catholic — contemplating marriage, the birth of their first child, the loss of someone close to them — the reality is that all are responding to the work of the Holy Spirit in their own life.

When the time is right, individuals around the world embark on a very personal journey of discovery and faith, becoming members of the Roman Catholic Church through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, or RCIA.

Are you thinking of becoming a Catholic or are you a Catholic who has been baptized but never been Confirmed or received Eucharist.  Why not take a step and embark on the RCIA journey.  You can make the first step by attending a session on Tuesday, August 6th at 7:30 p.m. in the St. John of the Cross Conference Room (the conference room is attached to the parish office - across from Mary's Garden).

For more information about our RCIA process, please contact Lynda DeManti at 408-839-3163 or email Lynda@santateresachurch.com
