Hi <<First Name>>

I hope your summer has been going well.  The cooler temperatures and wetter weather has suited me just fine but I know a lot of people look forward to the heat.

New Work

I have been exploring new subject matter for a while - leaves and weeds.  Simple but beautiful. I start with a photograph from my wanderings as a jumping off point but mainly the paint itself leads the way.  I have created a short video (about 36 seconds) showing the creation process that you can view here. There is also a pdf download that describes what I am doing in each phase. Here is the finished painting, called "Intimate", 20" x 20":

I have found that similar techniques also work well for creating interesting backgrounds for my quail paintings like "Out of the Mist", 12" x 16":

And, of course, I love to paint my trees and landscapes.  This is "Sentinels of the Valley", 24" x 36":

Art Classes

I have scheduled the following class for this fall.

Acrylic Painting Techniques
A six-week course of art classes

This series of classes will combine theory with practical matters designed to help you take your acrylic painting further.

Course Schedule
There will be six sessions of three hours each for a total of 18 hours of instruction.  Classes will start on October 8th and continue until November 12th. Sessions will be held weekly on Tuesday afternoons at the Pleasant Pear Orchard Studio between 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm.  Maximum number of participants is 8.

Participation is $250 per person. A supply list will be provided.

Painting will be done in acrylic, however, the lessons learned are applicable to other media. These classes are suitable for advanced beginner and intermediate artists.

If you are interested in registering for these classes, please click here.

Recent Shows and Awards

Entering juried shows can be nerve racking.  Will the jury like my work?  Or will other artists have work that is better in the jurors eyes?  So getting accepted into a show is very gratifying.  To win an award or sell the painting is very special.

"A Chill in the Air", 24" x 30", won an Award of Excellence at the FCA-COC Autumn Gallery show and then was accepted and sold at the FCA Gallery's 2019 Landscape Show at the Granville Island Gallery.

"Bright Spots", 12" x 12", was accepted into the FCA 2019 Bloom Show at the Granville Island Gallery, and sold!

And I have two paintings currently showing at the OASIS 2019 show put on jointly by the FCA-COC and the Peachland Art Gallery.  The show runs until July 28th, if you have a chance, stop by and see it.  "Turning", 12" x 16" found an Award of Excellence and a new home! "Sentinels of the Valley" (see above) was also accepted.

Coming Up - Lake Country Art Walk

I will be showing my work as part of the Kelowna Painters Studio at Art Walk this year.  I will be at the booth for most of the weekend.  I hope you can stop by for a chat and to see my new work!

If you can't make it to a show but would like to see any of my available work in person, please email me to set up an appointment to visit my studio in Kelowna.
