District 14-M Newsletter
August  2019
Editor's Corner

We would like the District newsletter to be meaningful and useful to all of our members.  We are trying to get people to not only open it each month, but to read the articles and respond to the requests as well.

The newsletter is only as good and as useful as the information that is sent to me each month.

I am asking that you send any articles (not MMR reports), pictures, or news that needs to be shared with our members to me no later than the last day of each month.

Please submit items as a Microsoft Word document (that does not include graphics or pictures) or as a jpg (picture).  No other formats are supported by our newsletter platform.

Send your news to:
Barbara Cassel, Newsletter Editor
bcassel@zoominternet.net

Thanks so much for your contributions and service!!
Message from DG George Andrako

Greetings Lions:

Well, my first month as Governor has flown by already and, WOW, what a start.  I was sworn in at the 103rd convention in Milan Italy with its old-world beauty and charm.

We also have a new International President Jung Yo Choe from Korea who wants us to lead by Diversity, build Special Clubs and is a big advocate of the Campaign 100 so Lions around the world can get more grants to help their communities with monies collected from clubs and individuals.

My theme is “Leading Lions into the Next Decade” with changes and improvements. We are walking on updating our District for information from forms, to advertising functions of clubs in the District for everyone to see. I’m also working closely with our Global Action Team to conduct more meetings in the District from Leadership, Membership, and Service to better inform our Club Leaders and Club members to make our District better. If your club is in need of help, please do not hesitate to contact one of us!  Even if you need a speaker for a Region, Zone, or Club meeting, we can set it up for you.

My first Cabinet meeting is Aug.18, 2019.  We will have the Banner Exchange, swearing in of district officers, the “WE SERVE” meeting, and the Cabinet meeting.

We are going to have steak for dinner at the cost of $15.00 per person and will also be selling newly designed District shirts for $10.00.

I’m looking forward to seeing everyone there to make this a successful year with your Help and Contributions.

In closing, I have just one question:  “Have YOU asked someone to become a Lion?”  If not, let’s get busy.

“WE SERVE”
DG George

Message from VDG Jason Long

 Fellow Lions,

August is upon us, and before we know it, we will be winding down our Summer activities. Remember that service projects and fundraisers are excellent opportunities to recruit new Lions. It never hurts to always have a few membership applications and brochures on hand at these events.

Hopefully everyone is getting the hang of service reporting on MyLion. If you are having difficulty, you can contact District Administrator PDG Gloria Schmalz or let a member of the Governor’s Team know that you need help. Additional training seminars can be scheduled if there is a need in a particular zone or region.

The USA/Canada Lions Leadership Forum is coming up September 19-21 in Spokane, Washington. The deadline for hotel reservations is August 15. This event is open to all Lions and is an excellent educational resource.

Also upcoming is the Advanced Lions Leadership Institute (ALLI). The ALLI will be held November 9-11 in Chicago. The Institute is for all Lions who have served as Club President but have not yet reached the level of First Vice District Governor and who are interested in attaining skills to become a Lion Leader. The application deadline is August 26, so please let DG George, District GLC PDG Ed Gursky, or a member of the Governor’s Team know that you are interested as soon as possible so that you have time to complete and return the application.

I hope to see you all at the Cabinet Meeting and Banner Exchange on August 18.

Yours in Service,
1st VDG Jason Long
