NEW Small Group Leader Orientation
If you have ever considered leading a small group, we would love to have you join our two-session “New Small Group Leader Orientation!”  This two-session orientation program is scheduled for Saturdays (August 10th and August 17th) from 8:30am – 10:30am.  Attending the orientation does NOT commit you to leading a group.  It is simply a time to learn what is involved in launching and leading a group.  One of the most important lessons is that you do NOT have to do everything yourself for your group (i.e. host in your home, provide food, prepare session, organize activities, etc.).  We will cover some of the basic and proven principles for group life.  Please contact Doug 217-737-3731 or the church office if you have questions or would like to attend.  (Current leaders are welcome to attend as a “re-refresher course!”)

Small Group Leader Training
Small Group Leaders: Please mark your calendars for our next quarterly Small Group Leader Training on Saturday August 17th from 7:00a – 8:15a. The primary focus on this session will be on coordinating details for the All-Church Small Group Launching Sunday on September 8th.
Are you ready to take control of your money? Financial Peace University (FPU) is a nine-lesson course designed to help you build a budget, dump debt, grow your wealth, and leave money stress behind! Each lesson, taught by Dave Ramsey and his team of financial experts, is based on biblical wisdom and common sense. In your FPU group, you’ll be motivated and encouraged by others just like you! When you sign up for FPU, you’ll get your member workbook and one free year of Financial Peace Membership, with access to exclusive online tools to help you on your journey.

Summer Sermon Series Continues through August 25

People don’t set out to build their faith on myths, but somehow falsehoods keep showing up in the way many Christians think about life and God. These beliefs are assumed by millions to be rock-solid truth straight from God… that is until life and the Bible prove otherwise. The sad result of such a realization is often a spiritual disaster! There are feelings of confusion, betrayal and a distrust of Scripture, and at worst a loss of faith and anger toward both God and His church.  Let’s use the Bible to debunk these myths and enrich our Christian walk!

  • August 4, "Good People Go To Heaven" (Galatians 5:19-21; John 14:6)
  • August 11, "All Roads Lead to Heaven" (John 14:1-14)
  • August 18, "God Is Lucky to Have Me: A Tale of Two Seekers, Part 1" (John 3)
  • August 25, "My Sin is Too Big: A Tale of Two Seekers, Part 2" (John 4)
Our new sermon series begins September 8th!  Details TBA...

Dear Atlanta area singers,

Connie Harris and I have been meeting and dreaming about what the future of the choir ministry at ACC might look like. What does God want us to do and how can the choir ministry better fit within the vision of ACC (to be a growing, multi-generational family of believers impacting our community for Christ)?

After several months of praying and dreaming, we think we have the answer and we’re excited to share this update with you all.

Beginning this fall, the choir will be called the ATLANTA COMMUNITY IMPACT CHOIR. The choir will begin to focus more on local outreach, service, partnering with other local churches, and impacting our community for Christ through unity and a common love for Christian fellowship and Christ-centered music.

We are going to look and function more like a community choir; involving members of other local churches to join us so that the Atlanta community can see the unity among Christians in our area. The choir will sing at all community Atlanta Ministerial Alliance sponsored services (Fall Festival community service at the park, Good Friday, Thanksgiving) and other community events (Christmas tree lighting).

The first event that the choir will sing at is the Atlanta Fall Festival and the Community Worship Service in the park. The tentative schedule is below. We know that this is over a month away, but we wanted to let you all know in advance so that you can begin praying for God to move mightily through us and to consider your own commitment to this endeavor.

Note: The Fall Festival dates will serve as the “trial run” of this new group. The level of commitment and interest shown in September will determine the future of the group.

Please respond via email, FB, or text (217-778-6171) if you have an interest in joining this group. The choir's director, Connie Harris, will be reaching out via phone to members of the community and Atlanta Christian Church very soon.

Thanks for your time!

A big THANK YOU goes out to all of the volunteers who made this year’s VBS a huge success!  We had amazing servant-hearted volunteers this year…the teachers, small group leaders, registration and decorating team, music team, missions team, arts & crafts team, games team, story time team, and those who assisted with tech during large group time.  Special thanks goes to VBS director Warren Smith for pulling it all together, our missionaries Chris and Lori Urton from Pioneer Bible Translators, John Yates (owner of Arcadia in McLean) for generously donating the arcade game consoles, and to the Heyworth and Minier Christian Churches for the awesome arcade-themed props and decorations.  Countless hours of prayer and preparation goes into a successful VBS.  God is moving in the hearts and lives of His people at ACC!

VBS 2019 Highlights Video

Warren Smith, our volunteer director of youth and family ministries, recently announced that he has been selected to participate in a residency program through Moody Bible Institute, located in Chicago, and Eastview Christian Church, located in Normal.  In this program Warren will complete online course work through Moody and hands-on learning at Eastview.   The residency program is designed to equip and launch Kingdom workers into vocational ministry in their local churches. The program lasts eleven months and will begin August 12th. This training includes:

  • Daily pursuit of God's word, ways and will.
  • Weekly training with gifted pastors/practitioners.
  • Monthly coaching with directors in your area of interest.
  • Semi-annual spiritual formation retreats.
  • Preparation for a lifetime of vocational ministry.
  • Course work towards a Master of Divinity degree.

Warren explained that he is not leaving ACC and will continue to be an elder, tithe, and serve at ACC.  However, both he and Melissa will need to attend Eastview Christian Church during the residency period as some of the training will involve working alongside Eastview leadership on Sunday mornings.

“This all came together very quickly.  Unfortunately, you won’t see much of Melissa and I at ACC over the next year as we pursue God through this unique opportunity. However, this experience to sit at the feet of Jesus will prepare us for a lifetime of ministry.  I guess in many ways this is like a sabbatical. We’ll be gone, but we haven’t left,” says Warren.

Warren stated that he feels incredibly blessed by this opportunity to be chosen as one of the first participants in this new program offered by Moody through Eastview. Please be in prayer for Warren and Melissa as they answer this calling in their lives.
