Interfaith Service Day

Thursday, August 8th

8:00 am at the New Haven Green

Dear Friends,

Imagine the day: You arrive on the New Haven Green at 8:00 a.m. on a cool August morning. Around you gather dozens of strangers, youth, adults, Christians, Muslims, Jews, and others. We form teams of ten including youth from Israel and Palestine. We meet them and they tell us about their lives as we spend a few hours painting, or planting flowers, or cleaning a beach, or raising burial stones, or building a house. We get to know one another, sharing stories and learning who we are, why we wear the clothes we wear or pray the prayers we pray. We work, laugh, and relax together. We return to the green and share a noon time meal. We take a photo and in the morning news our neighbors read and see photographs showing that “We Are All In This Together.” They see what we did together and we all feel a little safer, less fearful, and more at peace with the world.

Day of Service Itinerary:
We will provide tools, water, and a pizza lunch. Volunteers should arrive wearing appropriate gloves, clothes, and shoes suited for their project.

8:00 am Arrive on the New Haven Green where we will gather in diverse interfaith service project groups
8:30 am Depart for service projects (Walk, or private bus/van transportation provided by IWagePeace
9:00 am Enjoy interfaith dialogue as your group works together on their project
12:00 pm Volunteers return (transportation provided) to the New Haven Green
12:15 pm We'll provide a Pizza Truck Lunch for volunteers on the green; Music (Festive)
12:45 pm Press Conference and Photo Opportunities
1:00 pm Habitat Volunteers will return to their project. Other project volunteers will relax and enjoy time together on the Green as the Peace Billboard Painting dries and preps for posting on I-95
3:30 pm Habitat Volunteers complete their day
