African Sisters are practicing sustainable agriculture and farming to solve problems like malnutrition and food insecurity in sub-Saharan Africa.

In fact, according the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), women make up about 50% of the agricultural labor force in developing countries like sub-Saharan Africa.

The problem is many of these women don't have access to education that will help them improve their farming techniques. If women farmers had the same access to productive resources as men, they could increase yields on their farms by 20-30%, lifting 100-150 million people out of hunger (Source).

100 - 150 MILLION PEOPLE. That's a lot of mouths who would no longer be hungry.

Some ASEC students also submitted articles this month.

Sr. Christine, a HESA student in Kenya, shared a message for ASEC donors about how much sponsorship means to her. She says,

"It is good to note and remember that there are people out there who are concerned about the underprivileged. You have shown your concern by stretching your hand towards my education. A lot of great things can be said about you, more than you can ever know, and I thank you for everything." -Sr.  Christine

Sr. Senorina, a HESA student in Tanzania, shared an article about the importance of Growing Green to improve life for our future generation.

"Each one of us plants at least two trees per semester and after finishing our studies, wherever we will be every member of our group will continue to do the same and advice others to do it also. No contribution that is little will remain the same forever; it is little by little that fills the measure!" -Sr. Senorina

Support Sisters in Sustainable Agriculture Practices

By learning skills in ASEC's programs, Sisters gain the tools they need to serve their communities. While ASEC has made significant strides, 80% of Catholic Sisters in Africa still lack higher education credentials.

You can sponsor the education of an African Sister dreaming of going to school to learn skills to effectively serve the underprivileged in her community.

By donating to the education of a Sister today, you can improve sustainable agriculture practices and reduce hunger in Africa. Donations benefit a Sister's education and will impact the lives of hundreds and thousands of individuals she serves for YEARS to come.
