Rector’s Message
A highlight of the year is our annual Patronal Festival, which we will be celebrating this Sunday with a service of Choral Evensong at 4 p.m. Making this year’s service particularly special is that Bishop Jenny Andison will be joining us to both officiate and preach. I hope you can join us and stay afterward to share in a BBQ dinner on the church lawn.
Olaf is a complicated Saint to have a church named after. Unlike some of the more pious and serene saints of our Anglican calendar, Olaf was a warrior king and (like any other king of his era) did not hesitate to resort to violence. But nonetheless, he did have a major impact on the spread of Christianity and for this we can be thankful. Interestingly, he is one of the last saints to have been universally accepted by the Christian church before the schism between the eastern (what we now call the Eastern Orthodox Churches) and the western church. He is, in this sense, a saint for all Christians.
Join us this Sunday evening as we give thanks to God for the life of St. Olaf, both king and martyr.
