Dear Members,
Happy Summer everyone! I hope that this message finds everyone enjoying the summer heat (finally) and taking some time to relax before September is upon us again, much too soon.
Your PAVRO team is also taking some time to revitalize and reflect after the incredible national Synergize conference this past May in Ottawa. Held in partnership with VMPC and Volunteer Canada, the conference sold out with well over 200 registrants in attendance, one of the largest gatherings of volunteer engagement professionals in recent history! It was an amazing opportunity to network with colleagues and presenters from across the country and everyone came away energized and inspired. Rob Jackson from the UK delivered a terrific keynote on the first day, which was followed up a moving tribute (by Rob and former PAVRO President Erin Spink) to Susan Ellis, a true guru in our field, who sadly passed away from cancer earlier this year.
One of the exciting changes introduced at the PAVRO AGM is the change from a calendar-year model of membership to a revolving one. Now you can renew your membership at any time of year and maintain your benefits for a full year! We hope that this change will help build our membership base and strengthen our association’s ability to meet its mission.
The board is also actively looking at membership discounts to offer members in order to build value in PAVRO membership. Stay tuned for more details soon!
Along the lines of building membership, did you know that non-members can get connected to us by receiving our newsletters about one week after our members receive it? Send them the link to our home page and let them know that they can subscribe at the bottom of the page.
Finally, I want to end my message by asking all members to consider joining us on a leadership level! We have lots of opportunities to get involved. Why should you get involved? Volunteering with your association is a win-win as this great article clearly spells out. Mark your calendars- registration to open in August 2019.
We are pleased to confirm that PAVRO will be offering the Standardized Volunteer Opinion Survey for 2019. Planning is underway in preparation for this bi-annual survey. Registration will open in August of 2019 and the survey launch is scheduled for November 2019. Survey reporting will be in early February 2020. In 2017 4,595 volunteers participated in the survey representing 31 health care organizations/sites from across Ontario. For more information visit thePAVRO Website.
Drava Award Winner!
Congratulations to Helena Finn-Vickers who was nominated by Sharon Hudson Alipanopoulos for the Marilyn MacKenzie Achievement Award for Excellence in Volunteer Resource Management. This award was presented to a Drava member who demonstrated professionalism and excellence in the Administration of Volunteer Resources within the Durham Region.
Helena had the honour of being taught by Marilyn Mackenzie in her early days of being a volunteer engagement staff member and a volunteer at the Red Cross. Helena is proud to receive this award from her peers.

Newsletter Layout Editor - The e-Powerline newsletter layout editor will join the Communication committee and work closely with the Director of Communication. This is an ongoing volunteer role, responsible for the preparation, publication and electronic distribution of the monthly e-Powerline newsletter.
Strategic Partnerships (Sub-Committees) - promote the mission and vision of PAVRO while connecting to your network of colleagues, associates and political representatives to ask for their participation to be a donor or Partner.
