Kia ora, hallo, 喂,Привет, bonjour,
A special welcome to Tamati Russell (Rimu), Holly Howorth (Rimu) and Beatrix Howorth (Kahikatea) who joined the school this term.
We farewell Lucas and Charlotte Palmer and wish them well for their move to Takaka Primary School. Many thanks to Gavin and Tarnae for your involvement in the school and the significant contribution you have made. Best wishes for the big move and your new venture.
During the holidays we removed the last of the old night store and ceiling heaters and installed two new heat pumps and relocated another. It is lovely to return to a school with a more consistent comfortable temperature. I would like to acknowledge the generosity of Steve Fowler who created significant savings for the school by removing the exisiting heat pump from the Multi-Purpose Room.

Tina (Board) and I meet with our architects & project managers last week to discuss the scope and design of our new classroom. We expect to receive draft plans by the end of this week which will be displayed in the office for you to review and offer feedback. We are aiming to have the new classroom ready for the start of 2020. In the mean time, repairs of our leaky roof are due to start in the next few weeks.
Reporting Review
We are really keen to hear your feedback on student reporting this year to inform our next steps for the second half of the cycle. I encourage you to give your feedback by attending the parent forum meeting on Monday or by dropping me an email with your thoughts. principal@hira.school.nz
FOTHS Funds
We are hugely appreciative of FOTHS for funding Hip Hop Dance lessons for all classes last term with Melissa Berla. This term FOTHS are funding specialist Art Classes for all students with Clare Haig. These opportunities really enrich our local curriculum and offer some awesome experiences for our kids - thanks FOTHS for making this possible!
FOTHS have also agreed to fund a day with John Parsons who is an expert on internet safety. We have booked John in for Monday 18 November. John will work with each class during the day, run a session with staff after school and a parent workshop after dinner.
Valley to View
Our major fundraiser is rapidly approaching and we would appreciate all hands on deck to pull this off. Please pop along to our meeting on Monday at 7.00pm in the staffroom to find out how you can get involved.
Hot Lunch
If you are able to help out with hot lunches this term please complete the attached doc.
Ski Trip
Please check your kids bags tomorrow (eldest or only children) for information and permission forms for the ski trip on Friday 16 August. Our approach to this event has changed slightly this year and the school will take care of all transport and supervision arrangements once forms are returned. Please ensure these are back to the office by Friday 2 August to allow us time to process forms and make arrangements.
Sport Coordinator
Due to Katie's increased hours in Kahikatea class we are seeking a new sport co-ordinator. We need someone with a passion for sport who enjoys working with children and has excellent organisational and interpersonal skills. The position averages four hours per week. If you are keen to find out more or you wish to apply for this position please get in touch with me before Friday 2 August.
