A Little Known Republic, Exalted Women & Marabouts

Ever heard of The Republic Of The Riff? No? We haven't either! But there really was a Republic Of The Riff at one time.
The Republic Of The Riff lasted five years - from 1921 to 1926. It was birthed out of rebellion to Spanish occupation and the Sultan of Morocco and died on the battlefield.
This short-lived republic was located in northern Morocco. This part of Morocco is still home to the majority of a people cluster known as the Riff Berbers. What do we know about the Riff Berbers?
Riff Berbers - What Are Their Numbers And Where Do They Live?
- Worldwide population is estimated between 2 & 3 million people
- They are found in 4 countries - Morocco (the majority), Netherlands, France and Algeria
Riff Berbers - Their Religion
- Sunni Islam
- Religious leaders are called "marabouts" (scholars of the Qur'an). They often travel about the Riffian community. Many believe they have supernatural powers
- Followers of Jesus - 0.03%

- Maintain a pre-Islamic tradition of granting a high status for Riffian women
Riff Berbers - Problems They Face
- Poverty
- Infant mortality
- Major Agricultural issues. The region where they live in Morocco is eroded, deforested and poorly irrigated
Prayer Points
- Pray for gospel laborers to be sent to the Riff Berbers. It's estimated that 38 are needed. Pray that many could speak the Tarafit language and help address humanitarian and agricultural problems (see above) in Morocco.
- There are only small portions of Bible in the Tarafit language. There are none available online. Pray this will change! (Psalm 107:20 ESV)
- Especially pray for the salvation of influential Riff Berber women (Acts 16:13-14) and the marabouts (Acts 4:30-31). May they be discipled and multiply themselves. They could have great impact within this people cluster!
- Pray for gospel laborers to be sent to both the Netherlands and France where significant Riff Berber populations reside.
10/10 Prayer Initiative
Please continue to pray that a minimum of 10% of the world's Muslim population will come to Christ by the end of 2027. Pray for adequate numbers of trained and anointed gospel laborers would be sent into the Muslim harvest to help complete the job.
