Update; 1 August 2019

New Beginners groups launched

The autumn Redway Runners beginners' groups are starting from 31 August 2019 and at the end of the course you will take part in the free Milton Keynes 5K parkrun at Willen at 9am on Saturday 9 November 2019, so do put this date in your diary for graduation.

The courses are free, but you will need to be a Redway Runners member (membership is just £5). These courses are ideal for those wanting to start running or get back to running.

We have seven courses starting with Saturday morning, two daytime courses and four evenings and from Willen area, Woughton and Tongwell all covered.

All the details of the courses and how to join them at:

http://www.redwayrunners.com/train/beginners/

Again, this time we will be having an open evening for beginners and new members at Up & Running on Thursday 19 September from 6pm to 9pm, so keep this date free

Please do pass on this information to anyone who may be interested, see poster below

Beat the Barge - instructions

It’s nearly here! Lots of organising but we’re ready.

Whose going to Beat the Barge? Captain Jen Bates will be racing you!

In the event village we have a cake stall (cake donations welcome), massages, Emily Star tuck shop and BBQ. The Nags Head pub will also be open.

Come along and enjoy a lovely afternoon in Gt Linford Manor.

Full details for the event for runners and spectators can be found on the link below.

Award Nomination

Wow - We have had some great news, Redway Runners been selected by the South East Awards panel as either the Runner up or the Winner of the England Athletics Inclusion Award.

There were over 600 nominations made, read and discussed this year within the 9 regions.  Your efforts and achievements have been recognised, and you have been nominated by someone who already believes you are a winner and is grateful for your commitment to volunteering within our sport.

This is a fantastic achievement we will find out how we do at the Regional Awards Evening being held on Tuesday 1 October 2019 in Horsham.

Then, a national winner for our category will be selected by a panel in September and winners and runner ups will be invited to attend the England Athletics National Volunteer Awards & Hall of Fame In Birmingham on Saturday 12 October.  You can read more about this at: https://www.englandathletics.org/about-us/hall-of-fame/

Fingers crossed.

Beat the Barge - Bakers

Calling all bakers. We are having a cake stall at Beat the Barge this Saturday. We would like some donations of cakes to sell for the club charity of the year.

Please bring them along on the day or contact Debbie (or reply to this mail and we will forward on). Thanks in advance.

Gato Sports Head Torch 10K

Been asked to let you know about this fairly local event series and for paid Redway Runners we have a discount code, plus they are also looking for volunteers to help

See below and lets support this new local event series
------
The Gato Sports Head Torch 10K series is moving closer to MK this winter! We'll have 3 10K races at Salcey Forest on Wednesday 4th December, Thursday 23rd January and Tuesday 25th February. The events will consist of running through the completely unlit forest with just your head torch to lead the way - a magical experience and a great way to lay down a bit of speed in the Winter months. Entry for the event is currently only £15 per event or £39 for the complete series.

As one of the local clubs we are offering everyone 10% of the price for individual entries if you use the code "rwgato10".

As well as lots of Redway Runners taking part in the events it would be great to have support from your club in terms of volunteers. For all of our volunteers we offer a free entry in to any of our events, a £20 trainer token for Coventry Runner and unlimited running karma! For any Redway Runners (or your friends and family) who volunteer we'll also give a free place to the club to be used by the club as they please. It's great to have smiley happy volunteers - especially when running through the night!!

If you'd like to run, please visit bigbearevents.net and if you're able to volunteer please contact Paul at paul@bigbearevents.net

24 Hour Litter pick

Brian H and a number of Redway Runners took part in the McDonalds 24 hour litter pick, Brian, who is a mere 84. gave us this update
---
We started at 10am on Wednesday, I decided not to do the Up & Running 5k on Tuesday, this was a good move! Not good on numbers but over 20 of us set out, armed with pockets and rubbish bags with very neat round clamps which held the bags open, told not to pick up glass Serco would deal with that! Oh dear should have read pickers! Off from there through Campbell Park then down to Willen Lake, followed part way round but the main party went ahead so I tried to follow but realised I had gone wrong because there was obvious litter to pick up so got a bus to Kingston waited for the cavalry to arrive a great buffet feast was waiting!

About 2:30 off to Stadium MK, don't remember a lot a lot about it was quite a trip we left sacks at the MacDonald’s or along the way, well backed up by Serco, each stop had a supply of iced water, then on to Brickhill quit a (relatively) short walk but mainly on pavements.

From Brickhill left about 8 30 as it was downhill to Brickhill oh dear uphill back at about 8:30 a tough slog getting dark by the time we got too far Bletchley found that piece hard but eventually Westcroft, didn't like the look of Westcroft to Wolverton so Ken agreed no picker or sack for me I'd did get more difficult in the dark especially with a number of lights out on the redways we had to make a slight diversion, A5 shut!

Think we arrived at Wolverton at about 3:30 then from there to MacDonald’s near MK station not too long a trip but very uphill, I struggled with this bit and Ken booked me a taxi along with another Fellow who could hardly walk up to our final destination Central MK
---
Well done Brian and all that took part
