What it is by Em Peake
It’s a slow rolling boil
A cataract of mustard seeds falling into a glass jar
A loose gust smeared across the atmosphere
A choreographer’s handbook covered in tomato stains
A nonsensical bridge infiltrated by moss graffiti
It’s an anxiously attached fog clinging to the mountainside
It’s nothing at all
It’s a poem about paradise filled with clichés
A person named Ruby bringing you a glass of water
It’s well placed wrinkles
It’s calendula harvesting itself while no one is watching
It’s a pain sandwich where pleasure is the bread
A mourning swallowtail swallowing nectar
It’s an argument about underwear
A filial pea pod
A fragment about a dragon
A laudanum laughter
A premature yellow
A ladder being climbed over and over
A path being trod over and over
A body washed with charcoal over and over
It’s hair woven into braids over and under and over
It’s a sunlit discomfort
It’s a proximity to bears
It’s a waxing confession
It’s spacetime unfolding like a pulpy scroll
It’s a community of mosquitos discussing the mouthfeel of blood
It’s a lupine confusion
It’s perpetually slow
It’s asking over and over How will I know???
