Maldives | New reports with WHO address climate change impacts in the Maldives health care sector

 The Minister of Health of the Maldives, Abdulla Ameen, announced last month at the World Health Assembly in Geneva that his ministry is developing green, climate-smart policies for his country’s hospitals based on two reports co-produced by the World Health Organization (WHO) and Health Care Without Harm. The reports analyze the climate vulnerability of the Maldives’ health care system and recommended a set of policies and strategies to help the country’s health system respond to the impacts of climate change while reducing its own environmental footprint.  Read more.


US | Climate change inaction will 'lead to more illnesses and death' warn 70+ health groups

Health Care Without Harm joined more than 70 national health and medical groups to release The Call to Action on Climate, Health, and Equity to protect the health and safety of all people in the United States, following a surge in the number and intensity of climate change-related health harms, from exposure to extreme weather and heat waves to worsening air pollution and increases in insect-borne diseases. Philippines | Public health forum highlights health impacts of climate change, plastics and air pollution


In observance of World Environment Day, Health Care Without Harm Southeast Asia in partnership with the National Children's Hospital, a leading Department of Health hospital in the Philippines, conducted a Public Health Forum on the Health Impacts of Climate Change, Plastic and Air Pollution. The forum gathered support from the health sector and the communities they serve to address three of the biggest environmental issues facing the Philippines. Read more.

South Africa | Government faces constitutional challenge over violation of Right to Clean Air


Health Care Without Harm’s partner in South Africa, groundWork, has partnered with a community organization to launch landmark litigation arguing that the government has violated the Constitutional right to a healthy environment and failed to improve the deadly levels of air pollution in the Highveld Priority Area. UK | Newcastle hospitals declare climate emergency

The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (a Global Green and Healthy Hospitals member) is joining an international movement to declare a climate emergency, becoming the first NHS trust in the UK to do so. The declaration demonstrates a clear and positive commitment to take action on climate change by aiming to become carbon neutral by 2040. Read more.


US | New patient education materials on climate change and extreme heat


The US Health Care Climate Council produced a patient education brochure, Climate Change and Your Health: Extreme Heat, along with a companion poster. These free materials were developed in collaboration with medical professionals and communications experts and were designed to motivate people to take action to protect their health. Read more.
