Seniors retain the Noel Barton Cup

The Div 1 team have had a tough year but, as history has shown, the team have the ability to get up for games close to the club's heart and the game against Waimea for the Noel Barton cup exemplified this.

It was a tough game but the boys worked hard, showed heart and determination for the full 80 minutes to defeat Waimea 38 - 29.

Brydon-Strange Cup

The Div 2 team traveled to Collingwood for the annual Brydon-Strange Cup. An annual fixture since 1889, the game celebrates the strong connection between the two clubs and recognises the importance of the Brydon and Strange families to both clubs.

It was a great game, played in good spirit, and, demonstrating the real connection between the two clubs, Kent Strange turned out for Collingwood. Collingwood won the game 43-14.

The get together after the game reinforced the strong bonds between the two clubs and, as you can see from the picture below, the Nelson team dressed for the occasion.

A highlight for the Nelson team was that their bus didn't get stuck this year!

Attack on Nelson player

As you may have read in the paper a Nelson Div 2 player was seriously hurt during a game against Huia Birdhurst.

The Nelson player was punched by a member of the opposing team - he suffered facial injuries and required reconstructive surgery to a damaged eye socket. He is now back home, recovering slowly and being supported by his partner, family and team mates. The senior squad (players and management) have fund raised $500 to go towards his recovery.

The club has filed a complaint with the Tasman Rugby Union and we awaiting the outcome.

As this is a legal process the club can't make any other comments at this time and if anyone is approached by media please refer the to Club President Shane Graham.
