Rosé the day away with these lovely wines from the South of France

Mas des Bressades is regarded as one of the finest domaines of the Costières de Nîmes. With six generations of viticultural heritage preceding him, Roger Marès bought this lovely estate in the Provençal village of Manduel in 1964. Today, Roger’s son, Cyril, directs the domaine and crafts their elegant wines while his cousin, Alix, manages the estate.
Mas des Bressades consists of 40 hectares of vineyards in the AOC Costières de Nîmes, all of which are farmed sustainably. The soils in the Costières de Nîmes are rich in red clay and limestone galets roulés, which provides a layer of insulation in times of extreme weather. This area of the Southern Rhône is famous for 250 days of sunshine per year. While hot and dry during the growing season, the grapes can count on the Mistral to temper the heat. This native wind preserves the natural acidity of the fruit while also acting as a natural antiseptic against pests and rot, making sustainable vine treatments extremely effective.
Maison Lorgeril, a family enterprise, was founded in 1620 in the South of France, between the Rhône Valley and the Pyrenees. Since 1987, Nicolas de Lorgeril, from a tenth generation family of winemakers, and his wife Miren de Saint Chamas, have been expanding their business beyond Château de Pennautier, the family’s historical birth place. Passionate about winemaking, they have selected the best terroirs in the Languedoc and Roussillon areas (with chalky, brown and black schists, gneiss and sandstone soils) at altitudes ranging from 200 to 400 meters above sea level to temper the Mediterranean heat and sun, allowing a slow organic maturation of the grapes and the development of gentle and smooth aromas.

Mas des Bressades Cuvée Tradition Rosé 2018

The release of the newest vintage of Mas des Bressades's rosé is a sure sign of the onset of warmer weather. From one of the Southern Rhône's most esteemed names, this wine comprises the region's celebrated Grenache, Syrah and Cinsault grapes. This vibrant, sunny wine will offer brightly articulated red fruit with the region's characteristic savoury and herbal underpinning. Juicy, fresh, and perfect for grilled seafood.
“One of the darker, more traditional-styled rosés from the region (where the trend has been toward lighter and lighter-hued wines), Mas des Bressades’ 2017 Costières de Nimes Rosé Cuvée Tradition is a blend of 50% Grenache, 30% Syrah and 20% Cinsault. It remains a standard-bearer for the region, showing plenty of texture and complexity. Cité de Carcassonne is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the South of France. Nearly half of the wines produced in the IGP Cité de Carcassonne are rosés. The area is hot and dry, but cooling breezes from the Atlantic provide relief and allow the grapes to retain their freshness. This will be a light, zesty rosé with brightly articulated cherry and raspberry fruit. A nice pairing for breaded fish dishes.
