Fact of the Week

Yawning is contagious - even thinking about yawning is enough. After reading this fact, there is a 50% chance you will yawn.

Virtue of the week:

COOPERATION
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
I had some really positive feedback about the PL Day and I would like to acknowledge staff who presented the concurrent sessions. The sessions will be offered again on an opt in basis rather than as compulsory sessions.
The staff wellness sessions will also continue and it affirms the schools commitment of supporting our valuable resource. You!
It will be another big term and the Term 3 Directions Presentation will be posted on Google Drive. As I mentioned at the Briefing, the website and app are constantly being updated with dates and a copy of the Term Planner is attached to this memo.
The Staff Briefings on PowerPoint are all available now in Google Drive.
FINANCE COMMITTEE/ SCHOOL BOARD
We are seeking nominations for both the School Board and Finance Committee to replace Larissa who has a fair bit on her plate at the moment. If you are interested or would like further information drop me an email or pop in for a chat. Applications close on Friday 2 August. The minutes of the Finance Committee are available upon request.
ATTENDANCE
Messageyou - The process of contacting parents of students highlighted as unexplained via SMS has commenced with 37 parents contacted since Tuesday, start of Term 3. We will continue to run reports by 9:30am to see if rolls have been completed each day for the next few weeks and move towards that 100% target.
PL STAFF MEETINGS WEEK 2 (TUESDAY AND THURSDAY)
  1. Junior Carnival Briefing for all Pre-primary - Year 2 Staff (Anita and Sue).
  2. Continue to work in hubs to analyse data, term planning and work on Strategic plans to identify targets and targeted students.

MINDFULNESS RESOURCES
Are all available on Google Drive in Shared with me @Mount Hawthorn Staff - Staff Wellbeing for a range of resources that Shaun Kay from Smile Teachers has shared after the Mindfulness PL on Monday.
DUTY ROSTER
The Pre-primary's have joined us in the playground, consequently the duty roster has been amended Terms Junior Duty Roster. Please delete any previous copies as there have been changes made to the overall roster.
ASSEMBLY/MERIT AWARDS
This week I am out Thursday (Perisse) instead of Wednesday. It is a green assembly. I will need merit awards by Wednesday 11.00am. Sorry about the reduced timeline!
LOST PROPERTY/RECESS
JFK made an aspirational target of getting man on the moon 50 years ago, so a target of solving the lost property challenge should be achievable. The challenge will be to have classroom strategies after the breaks to keep students accountable. Perisse will work with students to highlight the successes. It is also very important that duty teachers are making sure lunch boxes and rubbish is put away. Unlike Apollo it ain’t Rocket Science. Thanks, Dale, Lorena and Perisse
DIGI TECH
We have over 40 Electronic Project Snap On Kits available, currently residing in the Year 6 classrooms. These were made available through a donation from Ed Support and some from the STEM storeroom. The students have had a great time building all sorts of electronics. If you would like to have a go with your class (they are very easy to use and self-explanatory), please arrange for them to be sent to your classroom for a session. You won’t regret it! Also available are 10 SPHEROs. These are great resources that have a lot of fun and educational activities to accompany them
Thanks, Daniel
SSTUWA
Please can all SSTUWA Union members attend a union meeting on Wednesday 7 August (Week 3) at 3:15pm in the Harbeck where we will be voting on the SSTUWA Log of Claims 2019.
I have put a copy of the Log of Claims 2019 in your pigeonholes for you to read over so you can make an informed decision.
New union members are always welcome and I will have some sign-up sheets available for you on the day. There will be nibbles and refreshments provided.
Thanks, Tom
