IMPORTANT REMINDER!
REQUIRED: 2019-2020 Policy Agreements Due by Midnight Thursday, August 1
Thank you to those families who have already completed their online form.

Please click on the red button below to complete required online form that summarizes your acceptance of all policies and agreements located in the 2019-2020 Lutz Preparatory Student/Parent Handbook, Media Release, Field Trip Liability, and Health History for the nurse.

Accepting these policies and completing this form is a requirement for continued enrollment at Lutz Preparatory School, a Hillsborough County Public Charter School of Choice serving grades K-8.  This form does not apply to students attending Lutz Pre-Prep, the private tuition-based preschool located on our campus.

ONE form must be filled out for EACH student who is enrolled at Lutz Preparatory K-8. The deadline to complete is Thursday, August 1, 2019 at midnight.  All parents who complete by the deadline will receive their student's homeroom teacher assignment via email by end of day on Monday, August 5, prior to the Meet and Greet.  If you do not complete the agreement form by the deadline, you will be required to report to the office during the Meet and Greet and complete onsite in order to receive your student's homeroom teacher assignment.

*Due to the large number of typos we have received in past years, we recommend this form is completed on a computer/laptop, not a cell phone.  We kindly request that you verify your typing in all areas for accuracy before submitting.

You will receive a confirmation screen at the end of the online form stating "THIS PAGE CONFIRMS RECEIPT OF YOUR Handbook, Media Release, Field Trip Liability, and Health History for Nurse Agreements" with additional details.

Please do not contact the school asking for a second confirmation of receipt.  Our staff will contact you if your student is missing any enrollment requirements.

A Summer Reading Awareness Gap for Parents:
Kids and Family Reading Report from Scholastic

At first glance, parents seem aware of the importance of summer reading, as 94% agree reading over the summer can help their child during the school year. And yet, nearly half of parents with school-age children are unaware of the “summer slide” (47%), the loss of academic skills that occurs when school is not in session and which is attributed largely to the lack of reading. This is of critical importance as the effects of the summer slide are cumulative. Researchers estimate that by the time a struggling reader reaches middle school, summer reading loss has accumulated to a two-year lag in reading achievement. A case can be made that we can begin to address this contributing factor to the reading achievement gap by addressing an information gap. The Kids & Family Reading Report reveals that when parents are aware of the summer slide, both children and parents are more engaged in summer reading.  Click HERE to read the full Kids and Family Reading Report published by Scholastic.

Summer Assignments for Rising K-5th Grade Students
There are not set assignments for our K-5th grade students (unless your individual teacher gave you a summer packet to return to them).  We do encourage our families to ensure that students are continually learning and reading while still enjoying a wonderful summer break from school.

Students who were enrolled at Lutz Preparatory K-8 in the 2018-19 school year will still have access to their iReady accounts.  Any new students to LP in 19-20 will not have access to this system.  Please click HERE to view a parent letter with instructions and a lesson log.

Important Information from Our Athletic Director
Over the past six years the Tampa Charter Athletic League has grown across Hillsborough County Charter schools under the guidance of the league chairman, our very own Athletic Director, Chad Mollick.  We are fortunate to be able to continually be a part of this program that grows our student leaders as athletes along with their growth in the classroom.

REQUIRED PAPERWORK & SPORTS PHYSICALS:  All student athletes that take part in either the TCAL Competitive Teams (5th-8th grades) or our Intramural Programs (1st-5th grades) must have the required paperwork on file in the school office BEFORE participating in any of the events or practices.  Tryout signup and liability online forms will be sent out prior to each sport with more information on that specific sport.

Students must have up to date FHSAA Sports Physical on file at the school office central files, these are valid 365 days from the date the doctor signs.  Files are not kept from year to year at LP so an up to date form needs to be submitted each school year.  Sports physicals are not the same as a regular health check up at your doctor.  It is best to get the FHSAA sports physical completed over the summer so it will be valid the entire school year.  Many doctors offices and walk in clinics offer special reduced pricing or free options during the summer leading up to the start of each school year.

Up to date FHSAA Sports Physicals may be turned in to front office or sent electronically to administration@lutzprep.org.  Please do not turn in or email to your coach or teacher.  Always keep a copy for your personal records.

5th-8th Grade Competitive Tampa Charter Athletic League Sports Teams
Please see the following for approximate dates and days for our 2019-20 Lutz Prep Tampa Charter Athletic League sports.

  • All dates and days are tentative and will be firmed up by mid-August.
  • Cross Country is tentative pending volunteers to measure and set up course at Lutz Prep or other possible host school.
  • All hockey is tentative due to court damage.  We are currently in the process of finding an alternate place to participate.  More details will be given as the year progresses.
  • Girls street hockey is tentative pending number of participating teams.
  • Varsity is 6-8th grades and JV is 5-6th grades

1st-5th Grade Intramural Sports
This coming year we will also focus on our intramural (1-5th grade) sports and try to offer our younger Bolts the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of various sports with the intent of building our athletics program from a younger age.  This will allow us to take our already successful program to the next level.

Each sport will have a total of eight, one-hour sessions, have two sessions per week (except running club which will be offered once a week each quarter), and take place directly after school until 4:30 PM.

Coaches Needed!
There are coaching vacancies available in both the Intramural (1st-5th) and Competitive Teams (5th-8th) that need filled as soon as possible.  These positions will also help fulfill your volunteer hours.  So please take a look at the schedule and see if you can assist.  Please contact our Athletic Director, Chad Mollick for full details and requirements.

Welcome from the LP PTA President

Hello Lutz Prep Families,

Summer is flying by, soon the start to the 2019-2020 school year will begin and your Lutz Prep PTA Executive Board is thrilled and ready to serve on the PTA as it begins its ninth school year.  I wanted to take this opportunity to welcome new and returning families back to school and introduce myself as your PTA President. I am excited to work with this year’s PTA Board members, as you’ll see we have a talented, experienced, and enthusiastic team.  This is my first year as President, but I have served as a Board Member and Chair Position in prior years. I also supported our Lutz Prep Board of Directors on the large scale fundraising campaign to purchase the building and school grounds back in 2014-2015. My children have attended Lutz Pre-Prep and Lutz Preparatory since the doors opened to our campus nine years ago, when the enrollment was only 225 students.  It’s been amazing to see the school prosper and evolve into one of the highest performing schools in the county and state.  My family and I are proud to be BOLTS!

What can you expect from the PTA this year?

The PTA is gearing up to bring you some of the popular programs and events such as the Boo Hoo Breakfast, Father-Daughter Dance, Mother-Son Event, SMATH Night, Junior Achievement, Teacher Mini Grants, and much more.  Returning this year is the Grandparents Celebration with a slightly different format; moving from breakfast to the evening and coinciding with conference night.  Also this year, the PTA will work with the Middle Grades' Trunk or Treat Event to bring you fun-filled family fall festival, so stay tuned and watch the weekly NEWSFLASH for event details.

PTA School Enhancements

The PTA has purchased all new drinking fountains that are equipped with water bottle filling units where students can easily refill their water bottles and keep hydrated.

Getting Involved

The PTA’s success depends on the support and commitment from parent volunteers.  We are currently seeking Chair Positions to help execute these valued programs.  Getting involved is a great way to enhance your child and teacher’s classroom experience.  Not to mention its very rewarding.  If you have the time, please consider volunteering for one of the open Chair Positions.  If you’d rather participate in other ways, there will be more opportunities to volunteer.

Enjoy the rest of your summer and look for our PTA booth at the Meet and Greet on August 8th to learn more about how to get involved and join the PTA.

Sincerely,

Kristin McCormick
Lutz Prep PTA President

Donations of Polo Shirts (With No Logo) to Help a Child In Need
FINAL DAY TO DONATE IS TUESDAY, AUGUST 6th at 1:00 PM

A Donations of Polo Shirts (With No Logo) to Help a Child In Need
Leader in Me Habit 2, Begin With the End in Mind
I look for ways to be a good citizen both at my school and in my community.

With the updated uniform policy taking effect in the 2019-20 school year any old polo shirts (with or without the old logo) are no longer permitted to be worn.  We felt this was a great opportunity to give back to a community school in need that uses the same uniform colors.

LP is partnering with Miles Elementary School in Tampa to collect light blue and/ navy polo shirts with NO LOGOS.  Please consider donating your previously worn non-logo shirts to this great Hillsborough County public school.  In addition to the polo shirts we will also be accepting any gently used KHAKI or NAVY uniform style bottoms (pants or shorts).

Collection bins will be set up in the lobby of the main building through Tuesday, August 6th at 1:00 PM.  Your simple act of donating a used polo shirt will have an enormous impact on a local student's life.  Thank you!

Donations of Polo Shirts (With Old Logo) to our Art Department
Our Art Department has some wonderful creative ideas for use of our old logoed polo shirts.  As you are cleaning out your closet and preparing for the 19-20 school year with the new required polos please donate your old polos WITH LOGOS to our school and they will be put to good use.  Donation bins are set up in the front lobby of the main building.

Carpool Matching System Provided by FLDOT

This program only works when there are LP families that register their carpool needs.  The more LP families that sign up, the more options everyone has to find a carpool match.

The FREE online ride matching system allows users to create a profile with commute preferences and matches them with other families at our school whose daily commute is similar. The data is all encrypted, and no student information is ever given directly to another family. The system simply matches the families, who then coordinate their own carpools. The program is completely free to families thanks to a grant from the Florida Department of Transportation.

TBARTA has cleared out the database for the 2019/20 school year so that families can re-register and get clean matches for the new year. Click here (or copy the URL) for the registration link: https://tbarta.rideproweb.com/sp/

7th Grade Entry Immunization Requirements
Email notices were sent last week to specific student who do not have this completed form on file at the office.  May times the student receives this immunization during their 6th grade check up so it may be done for many of you, we just need the updated form turned in to the office.

Parents can submit a copy of the official Florida Department of Health Certification of Immunization Form (DH 680) that you receive from your healthcare provider to the registrar in the main building office or your may email electronically to admissions@lutzprep.org

When your your student is up to date for 7th grade you will see the section:  Part A DOE Code 8 marked completed by your physician.
