Happy Summer 8th grade parents!

I'm excited to be on board as the new High School Counselor at AACA. I'll be communicating with you more as we approach the beginning of the school year, but wanted to notify you now that registration for the NWEA MAP test has begun for those students taking it in the fall.

  • If your child will be applying to a CPS High School, they will need to take the NWEA MAP this coming fall.
  • As you know, AACA administers this test as an assessment tool and this will be done during the first couple weeks of school. We advise that you consider signing up for the later test dates so that your child has one more "practice test" before the actual test.
  • The registration form to take the test must be received by the Office of Access and Enrollment no later than August 30, 2019 (via email or mail). Our private school code for Alphonsus Academy is: 100090

If you are interested in receiving informational emails directly from the Office of Access and Enrollment, scroll to the bottom of any page on the GoCPS website (https://go.cps.edu) and click on the "sign up" tab under the Stay Informed heading.

The note below is from the Office of Access and Enrollment at CPS. Please read through this letter and click on the link to access the registration form.

Please contact me with any questions.

From the Office of Access and Enrollment

Chicago Public Schools is now accepting NWEA MAP registration forms for non-CPS students applying to grades 5-9 for the 2020-2021 school year to Selective Enrollment Elementary Schools and high schools with academic requirements including, but not limited to, CTE-College and Career Academies, IB High Schools, Magnet High Schools, and Military Academies, and Selective Enrollment High Schools.

For students who did not attend a CPS school during the 2018-2019 school year, will not be enrolled at a CPS school for the 2019-2020 school year, and will be applying to any of the aforementioned schools for grades 5-9 for the 2020-2021 school year, the NWEA MAP will be offered free of charge at multiple locations around the city.

Click HERE to access the NWEA MAP registration form and additional information. The test will be offered on two weekends in September and one weekend in October. In order for students to be scheduled to take the test in September or October, completed registration forms must be received by the Office of Access and Enrollment no later than August 30, 2019. Submission instructions are on the registration form.

Please note that the NWEA MAP test is used by the Chicago Public Schools system to determine student eligibility to apply to schools and programs with academic criteria. The NWEA MAP is NOT the admissions exam for Selective Enrollment schools. If you have families who are interested in Selective Enrollment schools, the NWEA MAP scores will be used to determine whether their children are eligible to take the Selective Enrollment admissions exam. If students are eligible to take the Selective Enrollment admissions exam, they will submit their GoCPS application and schedule the Selective Enrollment admissions exam later this fall, during the regular application period (September 30th-December 6th). More information on this process will be provided when the family receives the NWEA MAP test notification letter.

In addition, note that NWEA MAP scores will only be reported in reading and math percentiles. Families will not receive an NWEA MAP score report or RIT scores. Further, it is important for parents to be aware that this test is only offered for students who are planning to apply to Chicago public schools for enrollment in the 2020-2021 school year. It is NOT designed for parents to use as a practice exam for enrollment in subsequent school years.
