SUMMER AT THE CHEF'S TABLE

Little-Known Actress Finally Gets Big Break

TBH, we'd be totally fine skipping all the praying and loving for two hours of Julia Roberts eating gelato and spaghetti. Remake, anyone? In the meantime, join us on Tuesday, August 6 for our screening of the original Eat Pray Love--the final outdoor movie in this summer's Georgetown Sunset Cinema series. Movies start at sunset, but arrive early to get a good spot on the lawn at Georgetown Waterfront Park. RSVP through Facebook, and check out our Georgetown Sunset Cinema page for nearby food options. Thanks for another great summer movie series!

We're Guessing He's the Cool Dad

Gordon Sterling’s early years as a singer-songwriter and guitarist were driven by the blind pursuit of virtuosity; blazing through one song after the next. As time marched on, the process slowed down. In this week's byGeorge blog, the frontman for Gypsy Sally's (3401 K St NW) house band Gordon Sterling and The People shares how his music has matured into something far more personal, what it was like growing up with a Jamaican amateur DJ for a father, and why he wouldn't necessarily encourage his daughter to follow in his footsteps.

Here Come the Brides

Or singles who subscribe to The Secret. We're not here to judge. Whether you're getting married, or wish you were getting married, join Georgetown Main Street on Saturday, August 3, 2019 from 11 am - 3 pm for I Do Georgetown--a curated afternoon of wedding-themed events, discounts, and amazing giveaways from businesses along Wisconsin Avenue. Four featured storefronts will host mini-presentations and activities, and additional businesses will host special deals and events throughout the day. Festivities kick-off at 11:30 am with a skincare and beauty presentation at Take Care (1338 Wisconsin Avenue), followed by groomsmen activities at Sid & Ann Mashburn (3206 N St NW or 3251 Prospect St NW), wedding wellness at Local Meditations (1631 Wisconsin Ave NW), and specialty wines, cocktails, and giveaways at Via Umbria (1525 Wisconsin Ave NW). Visit their website for the full list of participants, and RSVP to receive a free welcome bag.

Let's Get Physical, Physical

We asked everyone to raise their hands if we were their favorite BID. Picture says it all. Join us every Wednesday from 6 pm - 7 pm through August 28 for our Georgetown Sunset Fitness series. The hour-long sessions are brought to you by the Georgetown BID and held in Georgetown Waterfront Park. Bring your own yoga mat and we'll cover the water and snacks. For more info and to register for your free class, visit our Sunset Fitness page.

Custom Mimosas, BC the Universe Provides

As Kevin Costner said in Field of Dreams, if you pour it, they will come. Last week, we announced the opening of Shop Made in DC in Georgetown (1242 Wisconsin Ave NW), the first brick and mortar store stocked exclusively with DC brands. This Saturday, August 3, is the official grand opening, full of amazing free events from 10 am - 8 pm. After some morning mimosas, stick around for a build-your-own-succulent bar, then enjoy beer, BBQ and custom cookies with beats from DJ Kryptk, before ending the evening with a cocktail and chocolate tasting. Visit their website to RSVP, and learn more about the 100 makers featured at the new pop-up shop.

Baby Boomer Trigger Warning

In a page straight out of a Brene Brown book for Millennials, Uprising Yoga Center (3212 O St NW, Lower level) opens this week with the purpose of building an all-inclusive space of vulnerability and a strong community of individuals--'empowering them to be their most incontrovertible, unapologetic, authentic selves.' Join them tonight, August 1, from 6 pm - 9 pm for a Grand Opening featuring refreshments, raffles, membership offers, and more. Free opening weekend events include vinyasa yoga through Sunday. Visit their website to learn more and register for classes.

Talk of the (George)Town

Friendly reminder: It's Shark Week! Even Colby is excited.

Can you spot the mural behind the Doodle? It's on the side of Just Paper & Tea--one of several Instagram-worthy murals throughout Georgetown. Snap a pic in front of each and remember to tag us on Instagram!

Now back to the sharks...
