August 2, 2019
Dear Neighbor,
This weekend is EdgeFest, the Edgewater Chamber of Commerce's annual summer street festival at Broadway and Thorndale. This year's event features everything you love about past EdgeFests -- live music, great food & arts vendors, kids' activities, adult beverages -- along with a few new highlights:
- The 48th Ward's own Dan Luna will kick off the festival on Saturday with the north side's largest game of musical chairs! Meet at the South Stage by noon if you want to play.
- Sunday's festivities will kick off with Drag Queen Bingo at the South Stage at noon!
- It's all about the furry friends this year! Cast your final vote for Pet Mayor on Saturday during the Meet the Candidates session at 3pm near the South Stage, followed by a puppicino contest and a pet costume contest. Enjoy "Bark Bark Park" all weekend long -- a special pet-friendly zone next to the Koval Lounge. And on Sunday the Chamber will inaugurate Edgewater's first Pet Mayor, followed by the Pet Parade through the community. For more information on other pet-friendly activities this weekend, click here.
For complete details on this weekend's EdgeFest, click here. Please bring your family and friends out to support this fun event. Funds raised at EdgeFest support the important work of the Edgewater Chamber of Commerce to support and promote our local businesses.
Katrina Balog has served as the Executive Director of the Edgewater Chamber of Commerce for six years, and will be leaving the position at the end of August to pursue a new opportunity. In her time at the Chamber, Katrina worked with my office and the Edgewater Development Corporation to attract new businesses to the community and to support the long-standing businesses who make Edgewater special. Katrina's background as an urban planner served our community well, as she has a knack for thinking about the big picture. Under Katrina's leadership, Edgewater's business districts saw the addition of new branded bike racks, public art installations, creative events like the Women's Day Crawl to highlight local businesses, and more. Please join me in thanking Katrina for her service to the community and wishing her well on her next chapter. If you see Katrina at EdgeFest this weekend, thank her!
This week we also say farewell to our summer interns. These seventeen young leaders served our community well and brought a great sense of youthful energy to our office. I wish each of our summer interns the best of luck as they continue to further their education this fall. I also thank After School Matters, One Summer Chicago, and the Mikva Foundation for making it possible for our office to have such a strong cohort of interns.
The summer fun keeps on rolling next week with the Taste of Andersonville dinner crawl on Wednesday, August 7, 6-9pm. This event features two different curated experiences, each featuring nearly 20 different restaurants. Taste of Andersonville is a great way to try out a new spot and revisit those you haven't been to in a while. For more details and to register, click here.
And of course, we have another full week of Safe Summer Nights programming next week:

The work we’re doing includes relocating utility lines and equipment to make room for new track structure that will be built as part of RPM. Last month, CTA held public meetings about the project’s progress and the timeline for construction of the new Lawrence, Argyle, Berwyn and Bryn Mawr.
