Are you working too hard and getting bent out of shape? Are your clients? Muscle imbalances, reflected in postural imbalances, are often at the root of chronic muscle pain. Here, the dog represents a weaker muscle overpowered by the stronger giraffe-muscle. The result is a bent spine and a tired, aching dog. As massage therapists, we can soothe the dog and relax the giraffe.
As long as the animals are unevenly matched, though, the problem will come back. Lasting relief requires strengthening the dog with targeted exercise. Yoga builds self-awareness along with muscles, making it good preventive care as well. I now teach yoga Wed 4-5 (except Aug 14) and Fri 1:30-2:30 in my office. Stop by or send your clients! And consider my next 2 CE classes to explore muscle imbalances in clients and yourself.
Precision Deep Tissue: Twister Muscles
4 CE hours   Sat Oct 12, 9-1

Rotational imbalances are harder to discern and treat than front-to-back or side-to-side ones. What to do when a hip or shoulder is higher off the table? Target the roots of twisted postures that cause back and hip pain, using a new, ultra-gentle psoas technique plus releases and stretches for iliacus, obliques, adductors, glutes, and piriformis.
Keep Your Body Happy, 4 CE hours
Thu Nov 7, 9-1
Identify movement patterns embedded in your table work that may be causing you pain.
Learn more sustainable body mechanics, plus strengtheners and stretches to restore balance among your muscles.
Stretch-Based Deep Tissue6 CE hours   Sat Dec 14, 9-4
Produce palpable results, even with hard-to-reach muscles. Give your hands a break as you keep your body moving. Treat the whole body using PNF, passive stretch, pin and stretch, and more.  Draping tips included. An abridged combination of Neck and Shoulder/Back and Hip, plus techniques for forearm and lower leg. New, more efficient class format lets you save!
Precision Deep Tissue: Neck and Shoulder, 4 CE hours
Neck and shoulder complaints are among the most common we address as massage therapists. Since the root causes of pain and restriction go beyond the muscles that hurt, lasting relief requires looking beneath the surface. This course is grounded in kinesiology and muscular/fascial relationships. It features targeted stretching and releases for the tight muscles and fascia that sustain the postures contributing to dysfunction in the neck, shoulders, and upper back.
Precision Deep Tissue: Back and Hip, 4 CE hours
So much low back pain is rooted in hip imbalance that this is a natural pairing of topics. Release tension and restore structural balance by targeting relevant muscles prone, sidelying, and supine. Pinpoint these muscles with pin and stretch, pin and rock, pin and move, PNF, and more. Focus is on front-to-back imbalances (see Twister Muscles class for rotational imbalances).
Muscle Whispering, 4 CE hours
New research says the greatest impact of touch on muscles and fascia is through the nervous system. Here we capitalize on that insight, exploring subtle factors that affect a muscle's ability to let go. You'll learn to talk to the nerves that govern muscles in their own language--and relax deeply in the process.
Chair Massage, 3 CE hours
Have more fun than you thought possible with chair massage--while also being more effective! Stretch lats and pecs to help the neck, refresh aching elbows and tired forearms with pin and stretch, and learn an efficient hip releaser. Clarify practical aspects, including essential assessment questions.
