Spring/Summer  Newsletter

WELCOME TO THE SUMMER NEWSLETTER

<<First Name>>

Welcome to the Step by Step Art Summer Newsletter

This newsletter started out as the Spring edition and ended up as the Summer one due to one of the articles took a lot of time and research. This is an article about
the Berol Karisma Coloured pencils and the extensive research allowed me to put together a very comprehensive article on these rare pencils - discontinued in 2005. If you were a user of these pencils, I think you will find the article very interesting.

Also included in this newsletter is a useful guide to working with Coloured pencils on textured paper - offering hints and tips as well as the do's and dont's allowing those trying out textured paper for the first time, an insight into how a different surface could open up a different style of pencil art.

The third article this month is about the ‘Ghiant’ transfer spray - if you use transfer paper for your outlines, after trying this item, you may find yourself switching from sheet to can and saving a fortune!

The final article covers one of THE best quality papers in the business, the Strathmore Bristol 500. Archival & acid free, available in ultra smooth and textured Vellum for many artists, from pencils users to airbrush artists.

Lastly I would like to say a big thank you to every subscriber to the Step by Step art Newsletters, the current number of subscribers has now surpassed 400! If you have an Art related question or would like to request a specific article or mini tutorial, please get in touch and I will see what I can do. If you would like to share your art tips or recommendations in your own article, please drop me a line.

Click on any of the links below each image to visit the designated page - why not share one of our articles on the Step by Step Art website by using the social media buttons to the left of each page which allows you to share to Facebook, tweet on Twitter, add to Pinterest or Email directly to a friend.

I hope you find the articles of interest

KARISMA COLOURED PENCILS

The Karisma Coloured pencils were a very popular pencil. Sadly discontinued back in 2005, they were the European version of the Prismacolor Premier range, used & loved by artists of all calibre.
This article was created both from personal use of these pencils back in the 1990’s and extensive online research that took a few months to put together. There is lots of images and information included, some taken from promotional literature and there is also a lightfast colour chart! The invaluable information gained allowed me to create a 'jam packed' article filled with things you knew and maybe didn't know about the Karismas!

WORKING WITH TEXTURED PAPER

Are you a Coloured pencil artist a little bored of constantly using smooth paper and wish to try something different? Maybe textured paper is the answer, providing you with a new & exciting avenue to try.
This article offers a step by step guide to getting the best results from your Coloured pencils when working on textured paper. It follows the creation of a Sumatran Tiger drawing on Art Spectrum Colourfix paper. There is lots of useful information found, including the do's & dont's, such detail can be invaluable when trying something new. Textured paper could add that missing ingredient to your pencil work and you may never go back to the smooth paper!

GHIANT TRANSFER SPRAY

Spending a fortune on tracing paper could be a thing of the past for you with this Transfer Spray directly from a can!
It lasts far longer than physical sheets of Tracedown and minimises wastage allowing you to spray where needed. The best part is that you are not limited to a specific format size either. This article offers hints and tips on using this product effectively and most importantly, will save you a lot of money in the long run.

STRATHMORE BRISTOL SMOOTH PAPER

Looking for an archival, high quality paper for your graphite pencil work? The Strathmore Bristol 500 smooth paper is available in 3 weights allowing you to layer extensively - particularly suited to artists who like to create photo-realism.
Strathmore 500 Bristol is available as Plate & Vellum surfaces. The plate surface has an ultra-smooth finish suited to airbrush, mechanical pencils, pen & ink and marker - the vellum has a toothy finish ideal for mediums such as pencils, soft pastels, oil pastel, airbrush and mixed media.
