Happy Sunday!
I never knew exactly what I wanted to do when I grew up, but I've always dreamed up what my ideal life would look like. I would spend hours online shopping, adding things I couldn't afford to my shopping cart online, and then exiting out. I'd dream of what it would be like to just press the purchase button without a second thought. I never thought these things could be possible for me, until a few years ago. I started believing that I could maybe someday have these things.
But while I've started believing in the possibility, I also had hangups about it, because I believed that I'd have to give everything up to have a career like that. So for a long time, I just thought – well I guess I'll settle for being never being wealthy if that means I can have a lifestyle of freedom and joy. At the end of the day, what's the point of making money if you don't get to enjoy what it can provide for you?
I think people get caught up in the pursuit of something and forget about the day-to-day living that makes up our lives.
I used to think a lot about how people focus so much on school in high school, to get into college, then spend so much time studying in college, to get a good career. And from there, they're working hard to advance in a higher position. And I wonder, when is the time that you're enjoying the benefits of your hard work? When you retire?
I get that work needs to be had to get the finer things in life –– but don't forget to live life too. Don't get so caught up in the pursuit that you forget that life is happening right now. Are you missing it?
I'm starting to believe, with more and more people expanding my mindset around this, that you can choose to have both a life and make a good living. But it takes intentionality and reminding ourselves about enjoying the current moments as much as the pursuit of future moments.
Have a great week!
Until next Sunday,
