Hello,

57 links (mostly artists) added to the database last month, a lot from Iran and Indonesia and many many more to be added in the next few months (more than 150 artists have been already added this month, especially from Iran, Thailand, Indonesia and Turkey, full list to come in about two weeks).

One excellent re-discovery is Mireille Chamass-Kyrou. I only knew one of her compositions (Étude 1, first published in 1964 on a compilation called Musique Concrète. It's a nice surprise to see the excellent label Nostalgie de la boue publishing another of her pieces (Film Musique) on a split release with Vox Populi! (a French project that included her two sons, as well as Arash KhalatbariChester Harlan, Francis Manne, Mithra and Pierre Jolivet aka Pacific 231).

And big news - some may like it, other not, per request I decided to make women and bands including women more visible on the database, just check when there's an orange ♀, and if it's a purple one, that means transgender (until now ex-M) and if you see an orange ☼ that means non-binary. We could debate about it, do we need more separation ? On one hand, I think not to be honest but on the other hand it also makes sense to show that many women are also active in the scenes and let's hope that this would encourage some more to start to experiment with sound ; I must tell I took this decision also due to the fact that more and more often I'm being asked to provide lists of women in the field of experimental and electronic music from non-Western countries, this list will help me to save some time and a list of female composers from Latin America has been linked to the database too.
Another good reason I think is that I too often see lists of female composers and musicians that exclude women from non-Western countries, that has to change !

I'm sure I forgot to put an icon next to some of those women, sorry for this, I cannot remember all of them by heart but managed to remember more or less 320 already. If you see some missing, feel free to tell me.

Where will you find me in the forthcoming months ? From the end of August until late September I will be in Kenya and Uganda to perform, do some research and hopefully give one or two workshops. I will also perform at Nyege Nyege Festival, one of the most interesting festivals of Africa. Some artists who kindly provided me a track for the forthcoming Syrphe African compilation will be there too : KMRU (Kenya), Monrhea (Kenya), Jako Maron (Réunion), possibly more.
I will then briefly head back to Berlin, then to Belgrade, Serbia, in early October to give a talk about the Indonesian scene to perform too, this short hop will be followed with some projects in Manila, the Philippines at WSK - Festival of the Recently Possible and then a talk and possibly performance in Timișoara, Romania at the beginning of November followed with another project in Vienna, Austria at Wien Modern festival. I might also play in Berlin now and then between the travels. I usually update my concerts and talks page here, feel free to check this page for any further updates.

Filipina electronica artist Teenage Granny who was featured on Uchronia will perform in Berlin on the 18th of August at Goethe Talents – Go Live! (Free entrance). Other artists include Amr Ismael / Do'souqa - دعسوقة (Egypt)  Jesslyn Juniata / Jeslla (Indonesia)  Mpho Sebina (Botswana) noni-mouse (India) Rompiste Mis Flores (Costa Rica) - but to be frank, it's a lot of pop music.
