From the Director:

As we put together the Mystery/Thriller Summit, I kept asking myself: what do writers of these books really need? What is the biggest challenge of writing a mystery or a thriller? And I thought of what I always said to my thriller-writing friends: I’ll never write a mystery because I can’t plot it.

The interviews with the authors reinforced the importance of plot, as they returned to it again and again. So then I wondered: how can we help our attendees with their plots?

After her interview, I brainstormed this question with literary agent Paula Munier, who has written the most excellent book on plotting entitled Plot Perfect. Paula does plot critiques for Writers Digest, and she has graciously agree to offer that service in our summit.

How it works:
  • Register for the free summit HERE.
  • You will receive an email which will include a link to purchase your plot critique by Paula for $50.
  • When you register for that, you receive Paula’s Plot Critique Instructions, which will guide you to write your synopsis. FOLLOW THOSE.
  • Submit your synopsis to the email provided within 30 days of the conference.
  • Paula will critique your plot and send you her thoughts as to how you can improve it and better present it in your synopsis.
Plot is so important to keep people turning the pages of a mystery or thriller. I’ve had my own work rejected because the plot was “too thin.” Let Paula Munier, literary agent, mystery author, and writing coach help you craft a plot that will grab agents and editors in a succinct, brilliant synopsis.

You don't have to be writing a mystery to take advantage of this great offer. Paula will critique all plots that meet her instructions.

A critique of your plot. One more way the Village Writing School is helping us to:

Find our stories . . . and ourselves.

Please note the dates that the Summit will be FREE are
August 15-18.

Our rainy drive to Edinburgh turned into a beautiful afternoon and two more days of hot weather before the rain hit again.
