Shaggy Bear Farms with Wendy Hanson
Thursday, August 8th, 2019
Fremont United Methodist Church
2620 NE Fremont Street

Bus lines that'll help get you there: 17, 24, 70.

Doors open at 6 pm. Program starts at 7 pm.

Shaggy Bear Farms is a small family farm that focuses on the rare, endangered, and lesser-known fiber breeds. We are located in the small town of Scio, Oregon.

Currently, we raise 39 different breeds of fiber animals strictly for their fleeces. We pride ourselves on being a source of “farm to needle” yarns and fiber for spinning. We are a “forever farm” and frequently serve as a “farm sanctuary and rescue space” for animals needing a new home.

Wendy Hanson, chief shepherdess, is looking forward to the opportunity to share her experiences, adventures, and a love of all things fiber with the Puddletown Knitting Guild. Won’t you please join her for a raucous and unorthodox view of life on the farm, sheep, goats, and the people she has encountered?

Wendy will have yarn for sale at this meeting!

Note: NO FREE TABLE THIS MONTH
Please do not bring materials to give away this month. If you do, there will be no table and we cannot take it with us. Thank you for your understanding.
Guild Happenings
Thank you for joining us last month for our 1st annual Summer Party. There were plenty of busy hands creating blankets for Rose Haven and a fun Show and Tells of personal projects (check out this gorgeous blanket on the right!)

We're collecting finished blankets through October. It's already August, so if you pulled yarns from our blanket stash, don't forget about them. We'll try to have time set aside in September to help get blankets finished.

Here's a reminder about the project.

We're collaborating with Rose Haven to provide handmade blankets to their guests.

How do we make and donate 20 blankets by October?

1. Choose a size: lap blankets and child-size preferred
2. Choose yarn: Machine washable and acrylic preferred
3. Chose a craft: Knitting? Crochet? Something else?
4. Find some friends: Knit or crochet strips and seam them together at a party.
5. Bring in your finished blanket, show it off, inspire others!
Master Knitter Program Information and Support

A support group has started (Thank you Anna Manayan!) for the Master Knitter Program Level 1 by TKGA (The Knitting Guild Association). A table at the Puddletown monthly guild meeting is set up for our enrollees to meet at 6pm, before the regular guild meeting. The purpose of the support group is to offer encouragement, support and accountability for those enrolled in this awesome program.

Conscious Conversations

Previously known as "Knit Nights", monthly Conscious Conversations is a time we provide for knitters and crocheters who gather with likeminded people to discuss current events in the community. Those who are engaged in social media, who use Ravelry, who go to yarn shops, or who just want to chat and listen, can share thoughts, feelings, and experiences regarding race and other social justice issues in knitting.

We have a new time and meeting place.

Please join us the last Monday each month, 6:30 to 8:30 at New Seasons Seven Corners cafe
Next meeting is
August 26th at 6:30
New Seasons Seven Corners Cafe
1954 SE Division St.

So, if you've been wanting to talk in person with other knitters who have been following Ravelry's news, discovering or wanting to support more BIPOC knitters, and just want to self-reflect through conversation about race, gender, personal politics, and more with other knitters, please come. :)

See this summary of our 2019 meet ups.
Meeting Volunteers

Thank you to the generous volunteers that help us set up, greet visitors, bring snacks, and put away chairs and tables. You make it possible for meetings to go swiftly!

Kim Winter, our lovely volunteer coordinator, is always looking for volunteers.

Please email Kim at puddletownvolunteercoordinator@gmail.com if you're interested.
WE *heart* OUR MEMBERS

We're hoping to give more of you kudos on our blog and social profiles because you are awesome!

Member Spotlights include pics of some of your favorite projects, your fiber arts discoveries, and what you love about knitting. If you want to be featured, let us know via email or at our meetings. You can also do our little "interview" any time. Just answer 5 or 6 questions of your choosing and email us back.

We also love hearing your great knitting-related tips! You don't have to be a Master Knitter, teacher, designer, or expert to share a helpful hint, learning, or tip at our meetings.

Let us know if you want to share a tip.
