Hey!
In this week's Black Women + Creativity interview, N'Tirzah said, "Being creative is a birthright." I also believe that joy is our birthright, too. We get to experience joy whenever we want, not after we do something to "deserve" it. When we do that, we #TakeUpSpace in a beautiful way.
This month I felt so much joy taking up space. I took several naps with zero guilt. I felt this kind of joy during the UBGC virtual meetup on Thursday (if you missed it, sign up for August!) when we all decided to wear our hair scarves on camera and work through some silly creativity exercises. I felt super unbothered when my daughter and I sang Brown Skin Girl loudly in the car with the windows down.
Every day there are moments to find joy. Keep taking up space with your joy, Sis. Keep exploring what brings you joy. And once you land on what brings joy, make space to actually do it. Have fun with it because it's your birthright.
