Barack Obama is on holiday here with his family, renting a Mas (old farmhouse) on the Bartelasse.

Barthelasse is an island on the Rhône between Avignon and Villeneuve lès Avignon, which is about 6 miles to the east of us. They arrived on Friday evening the 14th of June on a private jet. There were French police, French security and American security people. They stopped all of the traffic on the route from the airport.

On Sunday the 16th (father's day) they visited the Pope's Palace and then had a meal at  La Mirande.



La Mirande is a 5 star hotel next to the Pope's Palace, my daughter Emilie has had work experience there. She saw them arrive about 20 cars all black with American registration.

The Queen has also spent some time at Villeneuve lès Avignon staying at the Fort Saint-André. There is a public garden there which it is possible to visit.

 

Fête à la Cooperative

 

The Cooperative holds an event for the public on a Friday evening at the beginning of June, there is music and food available to purchase, they have a standard price for all wine sold: 2€ a glass or 10€ a bottle whatever you have.

 

The music on this occasion was by a Gypsy band, only guitars, singing in Spanish. There is a connection with this area, because of their Saint, the Black Sarah. You get Romanies, Manouches, Tziganes and Gitans come from the four corners of Europe and even other continents, during May, visiting the Church of Les Saintes Maries de la Mer. Which is less than an hour away from us.

Les Escapades de Signargues

 

Four evenings of music food and wine, costing 28€ per person per night. These are held every friday of July in the four villages that are responsible for the production of Signargues Côtes du Rhône Village wine. At the start of each evening you collect a glass and a piece of paper with your name on it. That you present at each location which is then marked and you collect your food. There will be four or five different wines for you to try at each location. The images of the food available are not actual just to give an impression of the event.
